It appears as though Robert has decided to postpone his decision till after the season, and we should get a visit. In my opinion, while we are still a long shot, this is really good for us and really bad in Ole Miss' attempt to whooo him. Now Robert will have the opportunity to watch Ole Miss lose a bunch of games before eliminating them. If a guy like Quay has a good year, then Robert may see State as an opportunity to play with great players, One of his best friends, and for the best D-Line coach in America. We could be the sleeper coming from the pack with a chance to take the lead down the home stretch if all goes well.

Thats kinda of a loser comment. I didn't say we would get him, but just that by him delaying his decision, it is good for us and bad for Ole Miss. Ole Miss' best opportunity was to get him before the season started. Could they still get him? Yes, but the odds just went down in my opinion.

DLine coach in the country why haven't we given him a substantial raise yet? MSU needs to step up and pay Wilson before he leaves.

And if Mississippi has a "legitchance" because of his brother, why wouldn't MSU have a "legit chance" because one of his best friends is on the team?

Statements like this are just silly. MSU may not lead for him and may not get him, but you have zero idea where he'll actually sign. And it could be that he signs with MSU.

None of us actually think he's coming to State, but to make a statement like "RN is not going to MSU" is just idiotic. Nobody knows that **** for a fact, so why even bring that trash over here.

The family connection will keep UM on his list, probably in the top 2 or three. He has no reason to put us in the mix. There is a better than a 50% chance he will sign with UM due to his brother. Our staff will offer and will spend some time on him but they are not pulling out all stops to get him. He has a number of schools after him. We are probably not in his top 20.

Not in the top 20? We will probably get one of his 5 visits. Look, he probably won't come here, but if you are going to get a visit, then it impossible for anyone to say we don't at least have some shot. Stop thinking that MSU has nothing to offer, and start thinking that we are one of the up and coming programs in the country. Trust me, if MSU fans would carry themselves with a little more confidence and pride it would go a long way in helping us reach our goals. I mean we did land 2 5 star D-linemen last year. Why is it so unrealistic to think that we could land another? I am glad most of you don't work on our staff because, if you did, we would only recruit guys and invest in guys that were only offered by Conference USA schools in fear that we may get turned down.

I am all in favor of bitching and moaning when things aren't going right, but right now they are going right. We have a great staff, control of the state, expanding our stadium, and building a state of the art football only facility. It is time for the 1980s "woo is me" MSU people to back the hell out of the way so that younger progressive people that are actually proud of our university and the direction it is taking can be the voice of our school.

We are a long shot to get Robert, and he will probably go to Bama, but to say we have no shot is small minded and 10 years ago thinking. Expect more and have pride in your state and university and big things will happen. Hell, it did just last year.

A poster by the name of dixiereb26 stated that Robert follows Hugh Freeze and he's the only coach he follows! Gotta be a great sign! And the rest of the flock over there chimes in on that being "very interesting" and not 1 person asked the logical question. "Dude, did you really scroll through over 6,000 followers to figure that out?" reekris

Not my thinking. Came direct from an assist coach to my ears over lunch. We may get the occasional 4 or 5 * but they are going to almost always (for now) have a connection to MSU. The two players you refer to did. This was the very topic we discussed. Until we establish a winning consistency again we are gonna be behind the 8-ball for those type recruits. Our staff is focused on blue collar type kids that are willing to work hard and scrap. It is hard for us to compete for players rated like that based on an objective look at our facilities, location, and such. A high school player with offers/visits to Georgia, Florida, LSU, Alabama, Tenn, etc is going to see a big difference between those places and State. Just a fact for now. If you think that can be overcome by hard selling fast talk and a couple of mid-level bowl games then I refer you to Houston Nutt's recent success.

Mind you, we can pick up one or two along but they WILL have some ties to State. That is the only thing that is keeping UM in the hunt for Nkemdiche. Otherwise, they would be sharing cellar space with us. Our staff will make a run at him but realistically they are looking at players that will work hard and WANT to be at State. We can win doing that with those guys. The rest will fall into place with consistent wins.

If you want to respond, please hit "reply" under MY post.

Will Redmond's?
Beniquez Brown's?
Quay Evans? He has a landshark tattoo.

That's just a few of the 4 and 5* guys we got last year.

I agree with you that we will lose more times than not to some of those schools, but the fact remains that we took several guys last year that they went hard after. NONE of these were pre-season OR early-season locks to us. We fended off late pushes from other SEC schools for all these guys. NONE of those guys had a pre-existing connection to State that is ANY GREATER than Nkemdiche has with Schuessler. People consider him differently, because he's from OOS and is the national #1 prospect. To imply in NO WAY that we end up getting him, but our "connection" with him is as good as the other guys though.

Tennessee went full court press on Richie Brown, Beniquez, and Redmond. Nevermind the meltdown that occurred when we took Autry from them. Oh, and Autry is FROM NORTH CAROLINA.
Georgia went hard after Redmond late in the process.
Auburn tried their best to get Beniquez in the last week before NSD.

I don't want a defeatist attitude coming from our coaching staff regarding recruiting guys who have(literally) said they are interested, and I'd be willing to bet that Dan Mullen doesn't either...

..Ryan Perrilloux dick-teased the hell out of MSU, & like Nkemdiche, had all the MSU recruiting nerds experiencing the vapors.

Then Perrilloux signed with LSU, where he ended up...who the hell knows (or cares) where he ended up. Either in jail or at Kroger bagging groceries.

Nkemdiche may turn out to be a more successful college player than Perrilloux (and all that will take is avoiding arraignment hearings), but Nkemdiche is going to dick-tease the hell out of MSU, cast all you people into numerous fainting spells, then Signing Day Nkemdiche will do the cap thing & choose Florida State, Miami, Alabama or USCw.

This goes for you too, bear fans: This guy is going to cock-tease the hell out of you to the bitter end. Then he is going to suddenly turn his ample endowment to a school that will offer him the proper cash & flash.

and so did Evans. McPhee had a prior tie-in with one of the coaches.

Look, I did not say that unless they have a Mississippi tie we could not hope to sign them. We will get some. But we won't get a lot of the big names.

And there is NOT a defeatist attitude coming from the staff. They are playing to our strengths with players they think will be good ones. Nothing defeatist about that. It's smart. With only 25 scholarships per year everybody has to be smart with who they recruit hard and back off those that will most likely waste time.

And, I say family ties trump best friends more often than not.

Why do you think he says our recruiting is withing 5 hrs of Starkville? He has said this at a number of meetings and I have heard him say it at least 3x. So believe whatever you want. All I can do is go by what the man says......

Either way, we could/should be a valid candidate for Robert Nkemdiche on merit and recent history, with the additional help of having Nick S. on campus. Mullen and Chris Wilson HAVE shown they can develop defensive players and put them in the NFL. Two DL/DE draftedin two years, with likely another one or two in the 2013 NFL draft. While Bama and LSU may be better choices for overall exposure, State definitely deserves to be in the conversation. It's not like Croom trying to get him. For other less dominant (say, 4-star) recruits, State might be a better choice than Bama or LSU because of the increasedchancesof being able to start at MSU.
