In all seriousness, he's OUR #1 player in the portal.

I think it's between him and Flory from Kansas for the #1 overall portal guy. We have Moreno, so we're not going to be in the Flory recruitment.

Rob Wright has already proven that he is an elite PG. He instantly raises your floor and your ceiling. He's the kind of guy that flips the contender switch by himself. Other guys will want to play with that dude.

You HAVE to make this one be about something other than money. By that I mean--don't lose because of money. If the # is 4 million, it's just 4 million. If it's 5, it's 5. I'd almost think/hope you could work out some type of 2 year deal where he agrees to NOT leave for the portal next year but is promised 10 million over 10 years for agreeing to it. That's a lot money. It's absolutely insane. But if we're serious about getting back to being a contender and being relevant--you've gotta get this guy.

Trilly said early race is between Arkansas and Kentucky. Arkansas already has like 3 5 star recruits in their back court. Is Cal going to take Rob and risk losing one of his prized freshmen?

Arkansas has no bigs at this point to my knowledge. Jordan Smith, Billy Richmond, and their 2 SF recruits. No true PGs and no 4s or 5s.

Cal will have a big portal season just like us. A star PG relegates some of those wings to the bench though. Think a pure PG at a lower level and then spending their portal money on the frontline would make more sense.

I agree with your overall premise. If we spend 20M, we’d much rather overspend on our starters than on our bench guys. Our bench spending was silly last year both in evaluation and pay.

100%.

We had multiple guys that didn't play or barely played or played terribly when they did play off the bench. To think we lost Caleb Wilson over a million dollars that went to Brandon Garrison is soul crushing.

Put an extra million dollars into your top 2 or 3 portal guys--and then maybe you have to settle for a less heralded versioin of Brandon Garrison--but you can find a dude that costs a lot less and gives you similar bench production.

Please tell me that's not true about Caleb Wilson. Did we really cheap out on that guy?

Unless you're Mormon and/or getting paid serious bank, BYU is not fun for a young person. I don't blame them at all.
If this has any validity (and I don't know that it does), BYU should have locked down Trevan Leonhardt yesterday. Actually, I wouldn't mind at all UK getting Leonhardt from the Portal, but this place would probably explode with negativity. Personally, however, I think the guy is a great PG option, especially if you have a dynamic guy like Blackwell or Vanterpool at 2G.

No college athlete should get over a million dollars, this stuff is ridiculous, it’s never going to end. Then we will start seeing where playing matters and not just money. Kentucky learned that with JQ, signing damaged goods can cost you big time. Also what if you pay someone that and they go down with a season ending injury the first few games. The players can’t have their cake and eat it too, right now it’s that way. That’s why things need to change with transfers and NIL. There has to be stricter guidelines.

Why is a million your cutoff? Because it seems like a ton of money to you? Billions flowed through this organization know as “NCAA amateur sports” for years is complete ********. All the people “running” the league got paid for years except for the main talent.

Is it regular? My grandma would keep those red and gold can caffeine free cokes when i was growing up because she couldn't do the caffein and it was actually solid. That might be the loophole lol
I drink those . Several years ago my heart doc wanted to put in a pacemaker . I remembered Bill Bradley had gone off caffeine for some reason dealing with his heart . So I went off caffeine for a month . Went back and heartbeat had stopped being irregular and was perfect . It was the caffeine . No pacemaker . Caffiene IS a strong drug . Should be avoided .

The Internet version of events was that we had him until the 11th hour. UNC dropped a bag. Wilson asked Pope to match and Pope did the "We're not going to get trapped in a bidding war." And so he went to UNC.

I guess who really knows what is and isn't true. But based on how the recruitment went down, I assume something along those lines happened where we probably win if we're willing to give him part of Brandon Garrison's money.

If Pope beats out Cal for this guy I'd be impressed. Cal has a ton of nba point guards he can sell dude on. Pope has...well Pope has something I suppose.

All of Cal’s UK point guards were drafted as freshman except for Quickley. And Quickley played off guard here.

If it’s us versus Arkansas Pope needs to use that. Then tell the kid to make sure he explores other options and let those coaches confirm it. Then you use the Kentucky brand to seal it once the other coaches have negative recruited the crap out of Cal because they’re way more scared of him than Pope.

idk, just spitballin

I would love if there were stricter guidelines and some type of collective bargaining/contract system.

As it stands, these kids are going to get millions of dollars. And We can either play their game or we can not get good players. I'd rather have good players than die on a hill about how bad the system is.

Why not Mike? Should a regular student as opposed to an athlete be able to "get" over a million dollars. Your takes get dumber and dumber. Maybe take some time off and regroup
