That was my initial thought too, but then I just saw on the replay that he actually stopped running on the route because he assumed that the receiver was going to cut back.

Absolutely no need for a slide there. He had the clear inside angle towards the sideline, and he could’ve easily gotten another 5-7 yards without taking much more than a glancing blow
