about 2 months ago we had zero chance with O'Bryant...of course, things change in recruiting and we may have made some in-roads...but coming that far to swing him to us would be huge....I'm curious how many of these guys will sign early?

Maybe the kids want to take a few visits and get a little from some college ladies.
I still think we get Hood & Luckett. Still a shot at Adams.

We havent given the green light to commit due to the fact we are evaluating him and another SG out of the Memphis area named Bobby Parks.

O'Bryant keeps on dropping. I hear it will be an instate battle between us and OM for Johnny O'Bryant before its all said and done.

he must be having some bad camps because the couple of times I've seen him play he looks incredibly quick off the floor and very athletic.

</span>I mean, seriously, how would you know that? And I don't mean message board rumors, that's always good for conversation, but you act as if it's gospel. Because Steve said it? We see how reliable he's been. Paul, Yancy? Same thing.

The only thing we know is when these guys call Scout/Rivals/etc. and tell them they committed. And that part's free.

This is just what Paul Jones over on Bulldawg Junction has told me, and the other subscribers on his board.

But my "sources" say (as of a week or so ago) that Ole Miss' staff thinks that they have Johnny O'Bryant and Ky Madden as all but theirs.

The SEC west will be down this year and MSU and Ole Miss will have to have big seasons to make the NCAA's. I'm thinking like 11-5 minimum to get in.

then we will go 10-6, and we'll win one SEC tourney game, leaving us as a 1 or 2 seed in the NIT. That's the way it goes.

proven track record. If he doesn't get the highly rated guys, he'll get transfers or guys like Varnado. ****, with Sidney, I'm fired up to see what he'll do.

I blame it on Kennedy and his lack of offense/ability to get his players to do anything.

I do think he has a better idea of what he wants than what we see, but we end up playing street ball, which is why we lose just enough to miss the dance.

Watching a well-coached, disciplined team against us is disgusting.

All that said, I think we're not the only ones. There was a lot of talk about how weak the bubble was last year, and I agree with that. I think the art of actual team basketball has disappeared with the rise of AAU. Players don't have fundamentals anymore, and they don't know how to play within a team structure nearly as well. Duke and Butler was refreshing to watch, because it was two teams that played efficient basketball on both ends of the court. They didn't take bad shots, but every shot was contested, because they played great team defense and communicated.

That type of basketball is becoming a lost art at the college level. We're just one of many teams like that.

If we get O-Bryant and Madden, it won't change anything. We may athlete our way to a dance, but we'll lose out to a less talented team that knows how to play basketball, not just street ball.

I agree that AK needs to do something to justify his existence.

Of course we have pretty low expectations and if he does get commits from Madden and the kid from the delta, he may get another year just because we really don't expect too much out of him, and by March we will be focusing on our baseball program and hoping and praying the freshman class that everyone has been hyping is as good as advertised.

That being said, does Stans have to make the tourney this year or feel some heat? After flirting with Clemson is he good regardless?

Does = Yes
Should = No

The flirting with Clemson has no effect on his stance at State.

We are talking a 15-15 season and Ole Miss makes the tourney.

Even then he probably gets another year.

Im interested in the Hood recruitment, we have no shot, and apparently both parents went to MSU and he is apparently the best player in the state in a loaded year.

Stans usually comes through on these players, but I think more and more high school basketball players are looking to where you put players in the draft. UK is going to keep getting top 10 talent until Cal stops putting one and done players in the lottery.

If you had the opportunity to go to UK why wouldn't you? It looks like a guaranteed one year stop prior to going to the NBA.Why risk going to Ole Miss or MSU and not being developed or seen enough by NBA scouts.
