Of course this is total speculation on my part, but think about this. Rogers calls Bell to let him know the Newtons want $100K-$150K. Bell calls Bond. Why Bond you ask? 1) He has close ties to MSU, and 2) He is employed by a huge MSU booster who could come up with that kind of money without hesitation if he wanted to. It's apparent we didn't want to pay or we would have.

I guess Im considered a booster for Ole Miss, and if some agent claiming to represent some high profile recruit and tells me that he can deliver that player to Ole Miss for a large cash payment, my first call wouldn't be to Eli Manning. Im pretty sure I would call someone at the athletic department.

Also, how does Bell get involved? Is it because Rogers and Bell played at MSU together? Good thing for MSU is that Rogers is a MSU guy. Can you imagine if the agent was Lawyer Tillman or someone like that.

But why wouldn't you call someone presently close to Ole Miss with close ties to an Ole Miss booster with plenty of money? Why get the AD involved at all? I have no idea why Bell was the one who was called. Maybe because he's an MSU booster with plenty of money.

with people at the athletics department.

In fact they have the best connections with people at the Athletics department. Hell, an old friend of mine is now a huge booster at MSU, and he has several pictures of him and Mullen having drinks together, and I promise you he wouldn't need a go between if someone contacted him about getting a recruit.

If this wasn't a booster I would agree that going to Bond makes a ton of sense, but if this Bell guy is a big booster, he has someone at MSU's number he could have called.

Also, with Bond flip flopping on his story, he probably would have been best just contacting someone at the AD's office to avoid any confusion with what happened.

The real story that is coming out is that apparently Rodgers left a message, thats right a message on Bill's phone asking if the deal for Cam was going to happen. Seriously? Rodgers can't be that stupid can he?

Say Bell calls Bond looking for money. So what? What if Bond says MSU boosters attempted and failed to scrape up the money? So what?

Where's the violation there?

if we are going to stick to taking the high road and doing the right thing but there is no violation there.

Why would some boosters get the AD involved at all? Collect some money and pay for the player, especially if you know how much we want him. That's why I think we didn't pay. The money people knew about the deal, and Cam went to Auburn.

You don't think if Bell or Bond says that they "attemped and failed to scrape up the money" for Cam Newton its a bad thing for MSU?

Really? If two MSU boosters tell the NCAA we tried to buy Cam but couldn't get that kind of money together, that this wouldn't be a problem for MSU. Really?

You must be the same advisor that told Cecil to give the statement, that he could neither confirm or deny that he wanted money for Cam's services.

I think Rogers went to Bell and Bond because they were looking for someone to work around the AD/Coaches. But the call to Bell and Bond ended with a call the Greg. And the rest is history.

Knew it was wrong to try and buy Cam. If you are a booster like Bell and someone like Rodgers approaches you out of the blue, isn't your first call to the AD's office?

If you aren't going to collect money and pay for the player you contact the AD's office to advise them immediately that there is a problem.

Contacting Bond just seemed odd to me.

Bond and Bell tried to get up the money and when they couldn't Bond said 17 it andcalled Byrne to report the solicitation knowing that it would then go to the SEC / NCAA? You are reaching.

First, why call Bond? Because they are friends and Bond knows all the AD people. You wouldn't call Eli because he wouldn't answer your *%%@$+% call. But if one of my good friends new Greg Byrne and this happened to me I wouldn't be calling randomly to the school. I would call my friend and we would talk to Greg. That's how things work in Mississippi and if you say any different you are a dubmass!

On to your current statement. Ole Miss had someone admit under oath they tried to pay for Albert Means and you got nothing. The NCAA doesn't care about the ones that got away, they care about punishing the winner. I don't think there is even a rule against "trying" to cheat. Only a rule against cheating! So really, shut up.

it's so hard for people to understand why Bond was called. Bond was once on the MSU staff; still lives in Miss; I'm sure still has contacts in the athletic dept. This next sentence is speculation, because I don't know for a fact....but since everyone else in the world can spit out speculations as fact, I'm going to speculate..... Bill Bell now lives in Florida (fact); I don't know how long he has been there, but I'm speculating that he has been away from the program for a long enough period that it would be easier for him to just call a friend and former player that he knows is still close to the program and knows people to call. So Bell takes the shortest route to informing the athletic dept....call Bond and let him make one call and be done with it.

He had help plenty of other players get into various schools. Assuming helping means the same way he tried to help Cecil acquire some $$$. He mentioned Brent Shaffer to Tennessee. Does this raise eyebrows to Shaffer's recruitment, each time, because if I remember correctly, didn't Shaffer play for another SEC team in the West. Also, it was rumored that Rogers helped UM obtain Masoli's services this season. This isn't Rogers' first rodeo with the hand out, so does the NCAA start prodding these other allegations also and get all the people rogers "hepped"?

Maybe Bell and Bond are friends and talk often. Maybe Bell just called Bond to say you're not gonna believe the voice mail I had today. Then Bond said I'm calling the ninja.
