Roku /SEC+

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but please bear with me. We have a TCL TV with Roku. When I switch the cable box over and launch the ESPN app, there is a menu for SEC+. When I select that menu, I get a pop-up message that says I have to pay. The reason I ask is because I have a buddy who got the Roku stick when he bought his TV. He paid like 29 bucks for it. Do I still need to subscribe for service to view SEC+ events?

I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Does it give you the option to login using your cable tv provider info

The Roku, whether a stick or integrated into the tv, is just the infrastructure. You can’t unbox a tv download the espn app and start watching. when you first launch the app you will be prompted to associate this device with your subscription wherever it is. For me that means I open up the app, it shows a link on the screen with a unique code, I follow the link on my phone, I’m prompted to login with my dish info, and then I get to a screen where I type the code on the TV.

If you have a cable box then it sounds like you’re just not logged in on the app. Who is your provider?

Open up the ESPN app, look for a row of icons at the top of the screen. In the top right corner you should see one that looks like a gear. Click on that icon and the first thing you should see is an area where you can login with your xfinity info.

  • Open the ESPN channel on your Roku.
  • From the channel's home screen, scroll to the gear icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen to access the Settings menu.
  • If you subscribe to a pay TV service, select Provider Account >> Watch Live TV "Activate Live TV" and take note of the activation code that is shown. You'll have only a few minutes to use that code, after which you will need to revisit the channel settings to get a new code.
  • Go to espn.com/activate on a computer or mobile device.
  • Enter the activation code shown on your Roku and click the Continue button.
  • On the Choose Provider screen, select your cable, satellite, or streaming TV service provider.
  • You will be asked to sign in with your TV service provider credentials. If you don't know your user name and password, you will need to contact your provider for them.

Once you get connected and can watch events on the app, you can look forward to repeatedly seeing "Buffering" pop up on your TV.

If you have an X1 box just speak into remote and ask for sec network Plus and if you don’t have an x1 box then get one . It does not cost extra and it has all the apps on the box and you can set reminders for MSU sports whether they are on a cable channel or the internet like the plus sec network plus channel

A subscription to ESPN+ is $5 a month. You get SEC + with that.

No you don't. You only get Peyton's Places, soccer, and **** like Harvard Lacrosse on ESPN+

You do not get access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews, ESPN app access, SEC Network or SEC + with an ESPN+ subscription

I just cancelled my YouTube TV. Do I need a cable provider with the Xbox One?

We were talking about ESPN+ and SEC+ I thought? You do get that for 5 bucks. Of course you don't get the others.

No you don't get SEC+ or any ESPN programming including the ESPN App with ESPN+

Here are the live sporting events on ESPN+ for $5

ESPN+
As far as live events go, here’s what the service has:

  • One MLB game every day during baseball season.
  • One NHL game every day during hockey season.
  • A “selection of exclusive main event” boxing fights, and more undercard fights.
  • Every out-of-market MLS game (subject to blackouts) and local-market Chicago Fire games.
  • College sports from these conferences: “America East, ASun, Big South, Big West, Horizon, Ivy League, MAAC, MAC, MEAC, Missouri Valley, NEC, Southern Conference, Southland, Summit League, Sun Belt, WAC, and many more.”
  • PGA Tour coverage including Thursday, Friday, and “some” Saturday and Sunday play.
  • Grand Slam tennis coverage that’s billed as a “complement” for tennis fans.
  • Rugby and cricket coverage.
That list of ESPN+ live content reads like a group of castoffs: programming not valuable enough to appear on one of ESPN’s eight cable networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Classic, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, Longhorn Network, SEC Network). ESPN’s press release makes no mention of the NFL or NBA at all. There will be no Monday Night Football, and neither of ESPN’s two weekly NBA games will appear on the platform. Plus, no live event that is on one of ESPN’s eight cable networks will be on ESPN+.

Yes, you do. At least I do. I've always got all SEC+ stuff in it. You seem to to be confused about what ESPN + actually is. You will NOT get anything that is on ANY ESPN TV outlet with it. You got it right with your last blurb. I have cable that enables me to get that, except for the Longhorn Network. ESPN+ and SEC+ is streaming only stuff and you absolutely can get that for $5 a month. They might have gone up, I haven't looked lately.

No you are. ESPN+ is stand alone streaming channel that does not have any SEC Network content. You're getting SEC+ stuff using your cable login. You will not get SEC+ programing with an ESPN+ $5 a month subscription. I think your confusing the ESPN Streaming app (which requires a tv provider login) with the ESPN+ Steaming Channel that is available using the ESPN streaming app.

What's not included with ESPN+?

ESPN+ is technically separate from ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNews, so a subscription will not grant you access to live games being broadcast on those networks, including any live games during Monday Night Football and Sunday Night Baseball.
Your ESPN+ account is not the same as a cable login with access to the ESPN networks, so there's no way of getting around it either.

If you open the ESPN app. An ESPN+ subscriber only gets the content available when you select the ESPN+ at the top of the screen. All other content on the ESPN app requires a tv provider login. If you have a tv provider login and select the ESPN+ at the top of the screen you can't watch the ESPN+ content unless you pay $5 a month in addition to whatever you pay your tv provider.

Wrapit is right. On the app it shows which programming is ESPN+ and which is not. You get everything that is not espn+ including sec+ if you have a tv cable/streaming subscription that includes the sec network.

I have Xfinity and TCL TVs. I CANNOT use the espn app. It gives me an error on all my TVs. I have to use the Xfinity app to access ESPN channels.
