Butler is getting absolutely throttled. I think Rolesville is trying to send a message statewide early. Who expected Butler to get a 50 piece put on them in the first half.

I’m not even a hater when I say that I wasn’t expecting Butler to be on the same level as Rolesville. I do think they’ll get better as the season goes on, but it was just too much hype behind them.

Well i just left the game and now in the parking lot. A few thoughts.

When I got there Rolesville was on the field warming up while Butler was nowhere to be found. Rolesville was business like but getting their work in. Butler was warming up on the practice field and had to make an over the top entrance which was weird but the vibes were off.

Rolesville seemed much bigger and had a speed advantage. They looked every bit the part of a championship contender. On defense Butler couldn’t control the run game or pressure the QB so it was honestly a 7v7. I don’t think the Butler coaches did a great job of preparing the defense because the players were out of place. Some of the catches that were made by Rolesville were impressive.

The Butler offense looked like what I expected. Mainly shotgun, spread attack with fumbled handoffs and basic route concepts. No real runs to the outside, under center snaps real adjustments. They couldn’t run the ball and there wasn’t any variation in their running attack. I read that Ferebee wanted Butler to pass the ball for the most part but in doing that it created three and outs and put a tired defense back on the field. Plus Hales was smart enough to rely on the run game and mix in Lawrence when needed because he will throw some INTs. Its the most frustrated I ever seen Lawrence.

This game would have been hard to win with Hales and to be fair Newsome and Hales lost their first games as well. This was the most unprepared I have seen a Butler team. To put this in context Butler player Top 15 in the nation team St Johns a few years ago with a less talented team and still was more competitive and prepared. It gives me the vibes the team doesn’t believe in the coaching staff.

What’s wrong with Butler? Is the talent that bad, a running clock the entire 2nd half…gave up 66pts… could have been 100. I know Rolesville is really good but I don’t think Butler has ever been whooped that bad.

I do think Rolesville is more talented and has some dudes, Butler wasn’t prepared. Rolesville would run the same plays and Butler was incapable of making adjustments. Butler had talent coming back but when you bring in a brand new staff with a new scheme and players being moved around, this is what happens.

This was probably the worst Butler loss. Indy 2004 didn’t beat them this bad.

That had to be the biggest beat down in Butler history. They beat them effortlessly and put backups in early . I’ve never seen Butter look so unprepared.
Yeah it was for sure. Butler didn’t get beat this bad when they opened. Unprepared was the word that kept popping in my head. It’s like they didn’t watch any film on Rolesville. That was a terrible first impression. When Newsome got blown out his first game, Butler lost most of their team to graduation. Plus the defense played relatively well. Hales lost a tight game to Mallard Creek on the road. This game was different.

Again, I asked before the game. Who the hell is this DC Cannon? What is his credentials? Was he a DC for Chambers for one season?what’s the scoop on this guy?

I’m not worried about the offense, I think they will figure it out.

The offense is going to be an issue if they don’t run the ball. They are going to get Lawrence hurt by being predictable.

I’m curious to see how the kids and caching staff bounce back from getting beat the way they did. Losses like that can make or break your season.
The HC was talking trash on twitter or X, this loss will definitely teach a lesson in humility.

Imma chill cause it's early. Mentioned this summer Stone was the guy. Better fit especially with the guys coming back and a sr. qb. surprised Hales wouldn't see the senior qb off.

Hackett was the key to Chambers defense. Cannon took over but the defense was never the same.

Lastly Chambers was SUPER talented. no team had that overall talent level that Chambers had. Ferebee is a great coach and will get Butler rolling but it's a definite culture/scheme mismatch.

Rolesville and Weddington are just better than everyone else.

The culture/scheme mismatch is what jumps out. Not blaming the coach for wanting this job but it didn’t make sense at the time to hire outside when the team was really good last year. A couple plays and they are in the west final against Weddington. I told some parents in the stands it will take some time because of the new scheme. Hopefully the kids will buy in.

I know I'm old, and I don't understand today's culture, but if I understood some of the comments above about pregame behavior, Butler talked trash on Twitter, warmed up off the field to make a show, tried to make a Hollywood entrance, and had a PA announcer that doesn't need amplification and thinks he's the show. I'm not sure Rolesville is accustomed to that crap, and it may have offended them and motivated them into a little extra stomp down. I may be wrong, but I doubt any of that "in your face" behavior went on last year by Rolesville when Butler went to Rolesville.

I have always heard it ain't bragging, if you can do it. But if you are up against a team that is vastly superior to you, you may want to tone down the pregame antagonistic behavior, show some class, and try to concentrate on playing football. All the hype and showmanship is worthless, if you can't play.

I glanced at Twitter. I don't see any trash talk.
The coach has talked some trash on twitter sending subliminals, not really the players to my knowledge.

To Straight Scopes point the pregame wasn’t Butler like. The uniforms (which were nice), the cage, the smoke, the updates were great but the product on the field was the worst I have seen. It reminds me of the USC/Alabama non conference game where USC made this big intimidating entrance only to get curb stomped by Alabama.

I don't see it. But I don't know what you mean by subliminals.

I don't understand any of that to be honest. Chambers had plenty of talent. Butler had something that was working. I'm not a fan of how all that went down with the entire coaching staff bailing on a team like that that late and if they left them paying fines that's definitely wrong. So I'm not taking up for anyone, I just don't see any trash talk.

Yeah it's early and if they would have gotten off to a slow start and rallied maybe that works but this was a sole crushing disaster. It takes very little these days to go from trash talking swagger to kids who just don't care
Next week better be the get right week.

Richmond being embarrassed 50-13 last year still resonates with them. Will be a good one.

Butler’s talent is good but not great. My concern is the coaching and preparation. Rolesville last year had success throwing deep against Butler so to not prepare for that, not prepare for the onside/pooch kick, not prepare for the two point conversion looks that they ran twice because Butler couldn’t adjust is inexcusable.

Hopefully the coaching staff is coming up with a solid game plan but they need to run the ball. The defense needs the most work right now and quick three and outs doesn’t help them.
