You enjoy watching women getting beat up? You like seeing Rousey, who isn't ugly, laying on the canvas with her face all bloodied?

Not sure about Rousey being cocky leading up to the fight, but coming into the ring she looked as focus and pissed off as anytime Tyson came in. Holm even tried to touch gloves and Rousey left her hanging.

Then Holm hit her with about 20 lefts and kicked her and knocked her out...End of story. I don't think Rousey can beat this girl, and yes, she may never be the same again. Holm totally dominated the fight IMO. And Holm is a humble champion...good for her.

And for future info, Bdubs had the fight for free in Lexington.

That MMA dude she is shacking with must be laying it to her too good. Too relaxed.

No. I don't watch either. Women or men.

I understand, and to a large degree I'm with you. But Hagler/Hearns was one of the most exciting sporting events I ever watched. They're professionals, they're wearing gloves, they're making millions. It's different than watching two women bloody up the ring. It just is.

Kudos to fighters but I couldn't imagine a more devastating feeling/ego bruising experience than to lose a fight in front of the entire world.

To lose in any other major sport, you usually share that feeling with your teammates. But a fight? That has to suck and be so humbling.

I would think the absolute worst feeling in sports would be either a golfer who chokes on the final hole(s) or a field goal kicker who shanks a field goal in the final seconds.

Rousey's coaches had her convinced she can box at a world-class level which is ********. If Rousey's head is okay after getting knocked out then she just needs to go back to her world-class Judo and she will defeat Holmes. Trying to stand and trade with a high level boxer was stupid and arrogant and she won't make that mistake again as that beating was humbling if nothing else.

I don't think she'll be the same fighter again. Tyson wasn't after he got knocked out. I remember when Tom Cruise tried his hand at driving a stock car at Daytona, and came within a second of the track record. One of the drivers was asked if he was surprised, and he said "Not really. He's never hit the wall before." Well, Ronda just found out what the wall feels like.
You can equate this to just about anything people have not experienced until they do. Eye opener for sure. Uh, er.... closer in this case.

Did you watch the fight? They were on the floor a couple of times. She had a hold of Holm and couldn't take her down. Make excuses for her all you want, she got her *** kicked by a better fighter. Was just a short matter of time before one came along.

I thought Rousey would dominate Holm before the fight. Totally shocked that Holm beat her, beat her convincingly and beat her quickly. Holm was never a finisher but she damn sure finished Ronda last night.

However, for one fight, anyone can get caught or have a horrible plan or not train quite as hard as they should. MMA is a tough sport and with those little gloves, anyone can get their lights turned out. Ronda should've never tried to box with a boxer. While Holm was successful defending Ronda's few takedown attempts, that's where Ronda is vastly superior to HH. She never got a good hold on Holm and kept the fight at the distance Holm was better at. Plus, Holm is also a damn good kick boxer. I don't think Ronda prepared properly for the fight - maybe her mother, a world class Judoka, was right. Maybe her coach is a numbskull. For whatever reason, her gameplan in this fight was very poor and she paid for it. She's dominated other female fighters who are/were better than Holm at MMA. Holm's first two fights were against much lesser opponents and she went the distance and darn near lost one of the fights. So, imo, Holm is not a superstar. She had an awesome plan, carried it out beautifully and had the fight of her career. We'll see if she can keep the belt for any length of time. Maybe she's improved since her first two MMA fights but time will tell.

Ronda may not ever get back to the championship but I think it's rare for a fighter in their prime to 'never recover' from a knockout. You get caught, you go out. Tyson's downfall, imo, wasn't getting knocked out, it was siding with Don King and quitting Kevin Rooney. He got sloppy, quit training as hard, believed his hype and got his *** handed to him. The few pictures I saw of Ronda pre-fight, she looked softer than before her other fights. Not sure if the pictures weren't at the best angle or she didn't train as hard.

She was soft. She had not trained as well or dieted as properly. It was visible at the weigh in. Also visible at the weigh in was fear on Rousey's part (prior to their little face time spat).

She got too close too often. And the HH left hand essentially won the fight. Rousey never saw it coming. You can be the best martial artist, judoka, whatever, in the world. But only world class boxers have the ability to see a punch coming at their face with that speed. And Holly damn sure threw it fast. Rousey does not have the ability to see punches thrown that fast. This is why the top boxers in the world fight for huge millions and the top MMA fighters will fight for huge thousands (or small millions). There is small number of persons on the globe who can see punches like that coming at them in time to move the f'k out of the way. Rhonda Rousey is not one of them. Similar to hitting a baseball. A man can have the ability to hit a ball 500 feet, but if he doesn't have the ability to see the break on pitches in the high 80s he'll never reach the majors. It won't matter.

Really don't understand this post. So him not wanting women to fight is akin to him wanting those other things you mentioned? I'd say those who DO want them to fight are closer to that line of thinking.
What do you have against women? you a sexist?

I hate seeing people who admittedly don't even watch the sport bask in the glory of Ronda's loss just because she is a popular figure. No matter what happened Saturday night, that doesn't take away from the run she went on before. If anything this makes me even more excited for women's MMA to see what happens in the aftermath of that fight.

I watch sports, and I watch enough sports to know that she wasn't the "greatest woman athlete ever". It was stupid to even have the discussion, yet it was happening. People aren't basking in her loss...they are basking in proving idiots who believed she was a "once ever" athlete wrong. Unless the "once ever" athlete just got defeated by Jim Thorpe.

Someone had a great take on twitter, Rousy is just Royce Gracie; the one lucky enough to get in on the ground floor of MMA and dominate a bunch of others who don't know what the touch they are doing. Until she faced someone who knew how to fight, and the results are clear - lights out.

Gracie in his prime wouldn't be a top 20 MMAer in today's game, Rousy is destined for the same fate. Ain't no amount of non-hollywood living, hard training, not getting plowed by domestic abusing men is gonna make Rousy into a better puncher than who destroyed her this weekend, TS.

I don't really follow her or her sport, other than noticing the occasional headline and pop culture appearance... but if she keeps the prom date with the Marine, I'll be a fan and happy to see her make a comeback.

No matter what, she'll make plenty of $ on the rematch.

A big part of what made Royce so great was, noone had ever seen BJJ before. So when he took them down, they were basically helpless. As a result, BJJ grew exponentially. The side effect of that was BJJ was no longer the trump card since people were no longer helpless on the ground. Now fighters are well rounded.

Rousey is a bit different. She brought judo to the table, which is another fairly new approach. But she also had top notch BJJ. In the fight, she let Holmes (a striker) frustrate her into making bad decisions and getting kicked in the head; just as Rousey predicted earlier.

Was it because MMA caught up to her judo? Because shed been more celebrity than athlete lately? Because of over confidence? Because of a bad match up with a talented counter puncher? Or was it because the best female athletes hadnt entered MMA yet until they saw how lucrative it can be (thanks to Rousey).

We'll see in the next few fights.

.

There is a big difference in getting caught by a punch or kick or if something gets through, and then getting totally outclassed by your opponent. Holms was on a different level striking then Rhonda. I agree. I don't think Rhonda can win a rematch. Unless she improves dramatically in striking, it will be more of the same.

Maybe someone posted in earlier in this thread, but Holms said her coaches trained for the majority of moves Rousey had, i.e. knew what locks and moves she was going to do and trained specifically for those. Obviously, every fighter does this, but more so that her coaches trained her how to get out of her famous submission holds, and what strategy to employ.

And meanwhile Ronda was doing movie, modelling, appearances, new boyfriend, and focusing her training on boxing and standing up with a seasoned two-time world boxing and kickboxing champion furiously training to beat her.

If she wasn't Alabama tomboy hot and willing to have naked pictures of herself all over the internet, she wouldn't have been nearly as popular. In that fight she looked like some scrapper they pulled out of the audience to fight the champ for $100.

The reason I'm happy she got beat up is I don't have hear about the remake of Road House. I guess they could still do a rewrite and let Brad Wesley win.

What's the difference between seeing a woman getting beat up and watching a man get beat up?

Fighting is their best skill set and they have a right to get paid for what they do. Who are you or am I to tell them otherwise? People are willing to pay to see them fight, they are willing to get in the octagon, boxing ring or where ever and get it on...
