Maybe someone posted in earlier in this thread, but Holms said her coaches trained for the majority of moves Rousey had, i.e. knew what locks and moves she was going to do and trained specifically for those. Obviously, every fighter does this, but more so that her coaches trained her how to get out of her famous submission holds, and what strategy to employ.

Youre right. But it still isnt easy, even if you know whats coming.

And meanwhile Ronda was doing movie, modelling, appearances, new boyfriend, and focusing her training on boxing and standing up with a seasoned two-time world boxing and kickboxing champion furiously training to beat her.

I really think this is the key. She was stretched too thin. Had the opportunity to make career ending money in a few months span, and took it.

I think if shed trained, focused, and stuck with her game; she would have won. She acted tired, out of shape, hurried, and desperate.

She.. meaning her team... really thought she was going to go in there and slug it out with a two-time world boxing and kickboxing champion. That was delusional. She was simply not prepared for this fight, had too many distractions and obligations away from fighting, and went in with entirely the wrong game plan.

If she refocuses you will see her rematch Holm and quickly take her down and submit her in a rematch. That is of course assuming Ronda doesn't pull a Carino and walk away for a couple years as you never know when somebody gets their *** kicked what they will take away from it and Ronda really truly took an A1 first class *** whooping right there. No doubt about it.

It's too early to judge her, you have to wait until the re-match. She could have thrown this fight to make herself into a legend by reclaiming her title.

Rousey tried to take Holm down and submit her and failed. Holm's takedown defense is what frustrated Rousey into trying to box her in the first place. Maybe Rousey finally fought someone who exploited a glaring weakness in her game and Rousey, at 28, isn't likely to dramatically change her skill set going forward. I mean, the way she missed on that punch and fell down was embarrassing.

Rousey was the product of 1) one very specific skill that she is amazing at 2) tremendously weak competition and 3) unbelievable media hype that would make ESPN and Tim Tebow blush. She is a fantastic fighter and could win the title back, but I'm glad we can finally cut the "best athlete ever zomfg she could beat mayweather and all 135 lb men fighters!1!!" ********

If Ronda is committed to bringing Holm down then she is going to bring her down. She throws men around in training. Just a matter of putting in the work in training camp and then executing the plan on fight day. I guarantee Ronda did not put in the work necessary to win this fight. Too many irons in the fire. I did not see explosiveness at all in Ronda. She was flat. Going through the motions.

Amused how a lot of the men in my neighborhood (those "men" who hate her for making them feel less masculine) celebrated like her losing made them somehow better.....[pfftt]

I didnt see that at all. I saw her come out and try to out strike her. Rousey did get a take down but didnt get a submission. That was the only take down attempt I saw from Rousey.
Exactly, she got Holm on the ground and couldn't get the armbar and Holm was able to get off the mat. And she tried to clinch a few times and Holm slipped her. Not a "shoot" or throw attempt, but she was trying to get inside and lock up to set up a takedown and Holm didn't let it happen

And Rousey could take Holm down next time, but her ability to throw men around has nothing to do with it. Judo is about using your opponent's weight and momentum against them. Holm's reach and understanding that she needs to keep it on the outside is what negated Rousey's strength in the first place. Sure, she could get thrown, but it would make more sense for her to do exactly what she did this time; keep distance, strike, and defend against shoots

Her ability to throw men around is aided by the fact that they are there for the purpose of her throwing them around. If boxing is a part of MMA fighting, and it is, then she is not the best.

The fact that so many men are discussing women's boxing in strategic terms is a huge win for women's sports, and it's why I would vote for Rousey as athlete of the year. Is she the greatest female athlete of all time? Hardly. But look at what she has done for women's sports.

You don't see us on here talking about UK women's games this way. Or women's tennis.

LOL! Yes, I'm surprised to see her getting trashed so much. Did she just get "too big for her britches" or did she lose some fans by going political with her Prez endorsement? Might be a Dixie Chicks-like situation?

Regardless, she'll be fine if she plays it right. People love to see a humbled person make a comeback.

What I saw looked like she was trying to out strike her. But she could well have been trying to get inside and grapple. Tough to tell.

I do think you touch on an important point - I think Rousey underestimated her opponent by a mile. In a rematch she may still not be able to win, but Id be willing to bet she wont look so out of sorts.

True in part. In the videos, the men shes throwing are "feeding" her, but that still takes alot of skill. And she has alot of skill.

Striking is an important part of MMA, but so is ground game. In this matchup, the striker fought her fight, so she won.

One thing that makes women's MMA more fun to watch...pretend they are fighting over you.
