“The thing that made me choose Mississippi State was coaching,” said Christy, who mentioned receivers coach Angelo Mirando several times. “Everywhere I went, the coaching at MSU stuck out the most.”
drafted, so the most you should hope for is consistency catching the ball. Our biggest threats for for big plays will come from Lewis and Morrow (hopefully he lives up to the hype). Morrow is the only one with the build to cause matchup problems. All of our other wr's are average sized and not blazing fast.
...Miss State's leading WR in receiving yards ranked 18th in the league last year, with 30 catches for 442 yds & a grand total of 4 TD's.
Any MSU WR coach worth his salt would be ashamed at that statistic.
If Christy was impressed by Angelo Mirando, then Christy was impressed by mediocrity. (Provided Angelo Mirando was coaching MSU WR's last year. I've never heard of Angelo Mirando).
Chris Smith is going to have a huge year with Russell throwing the ball. People forget they've played together for about 7 years now. He's a bit of a matchup problem as well.
Chad Bumphis, despite his lackluster season last year, still projects as a likely late round draft pick. IMO he'll help his stock this year.
Let's not judge the receivers we have until they've got extended time with a competent qb slinging them the ball...
glorious Croom Error seasons. In three of those five miserable years, we didn't have a receiver in the Top 20. Two of those years we were led by Will Prosser. Will Prosser. I'm not a Marcello fan, but he's certainly better than Woody, Crooms et al.
Considering we had a 240 lb running QB with a below average OL. Our WRs aren't world beaters by any means but they aren't uncoached scrubs either. BUT the fact that you don't even know who our receivers coach is after bashing him all summer explains a lot.
I didn't say anything about Bumphis having a "huge" year, because I don't have that much faith in him right now, but he could still easily be taken in the draft. People are forgetting how productive and physical he was his first 2 years before the collarbone injury. He was pretty bad last year at times, I admit. http://www.cbssports.com/...prospectrankings/2013/WR
Chris Smith gets 55+ catches on 600+ yards. 6-8TD's.
