I've got nothing else going on in the tourney, so I'm rooting for Matt Painter and Purdue. Is there any coach more underrated in the B10? (Maybe Beilein? But he's getting it done.)
The guy has won B10 coach of the year four times in his 14 years at Purdue.
11 tournament appearances
3 B10 championships and a B10 tourney championship in another year
5 Sweet 16s
(As an aside, I'm a bit surprised Purdue has the most B10 championships at 24 - two more than IU and sanctionless OSU)
He still needs that big year to be known as great, but he's only 48 years old.
According to ESPN's rating, in the last 10 years, Painter's has only had one top 50 in Swanigan. He's had six top 100s the best of whom was Hammons and Haas. I think we can say the jury is still out on Eastern.
That's a lot of development.
