Pernell McPhee, 4-star Juco DE. Has some nice offers, which is saying something for a juco to get offers this early.

Well we'd be crazy not to take 4-star prospects who want to come to MSU. And from what they say about Anthony Rogers, it's likely that he'll eventually get an offer from Arkansas and jilt us. And even if he comes to MSU, he could probably be a good candidate to eventually be a DT.

And to me, i have no problem with extra recruits on either the OL or DL.

Sherrill had a team one year, 98 or 99, in which we had a 2-deep rotation of guys, any of whom could have started anywhere else. That was the most dominant DL I've ever seen us have.

Sure it would be great to have a 5* world-beater QB. But realistically, we have a better shot at having a dominant DL that stays fresh and keeps OC's up late at night.

you could turn some of them into linebackers, and I think a guy like Shane McCardell could be a receiver or tight end. This guy is pretty much taking over where Jazzmen Guy would have, if he had kept his head on straight.

this guy's only offer out of high school was Southern Miss.

Right now we have three Sr. DE, McRaney, Bailey, and Holmes. Burns may never play again and Prince won't be on the team this fall and may not be back period. Gainus from this past signing class is a likely JUCO. That pretty much leaves us with Cooper and all the freshmens DE we signed this year as the only DE on the depth chart for 2009. I like it. Probably means Rogers has a foot out the door as well.

well, having two above average DE's can be a great attribute for a team if you can generate pass rush from either side without having to constantly bring extra guys. I think it's wise to always sign several lineman you like and always hope you have 2-3 that meet expectations b/c you're going to miss on some guys.

Mcphee had 19 sacks in 10 games and over 30 tackles for loss last season. I dont care what level of competition your playing, that is still pretty impressive.

He was probably only offered by Southern Miss out of high school b/c he probably didn't make the grades. I don't think he would have passed up a chance to play D1 just so he could go to juco and get better offers.

and that none can play every snap of a game, I'd say you need 3 quality DE's in every class. Also, it's an extremely injury prone position.

I can't remember the entire line but Dorsett Davis, Willie Blade, Toby Golliday, and someone else on the 2nd team.

Ellis Wyms, Kevin Sluder, Conner Stephens, and someone else on 1st team. I think that is right.

The other guy was John Hilliard. He was a JUCO signee from Texas. That dude batted down more passes than any lineman in recent history it seems.

McPhee top 5 natl juco player on Rivals. Top player in state on Sun Herald's MS juco top 30.

That was the #1 defense in the country, 1999. If the offense could have averaged 10-14 points per game on its own, MSU would have gone undefeated and won the "national championship" that year. Even in MSU's best year where we lose only 2 games, the offense still sucked.
