Ross will visit, then sign. But when?

November 10, 2010

LaQuinton Ross will make an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, his coach at Life Center Academy said in an e-mail late last night, and will not be signing a binding letter of intent until after the visit.

But exactly when will he sign _ before next Wednesday _ and with whom?

[*]Four players have committed to play for the Ohio State men's basketball team next season, but only three of them are likely to sign national letters of intent today that will bind them to their promise.[/list]

The fourth, 6-foot-8 wing LaQuinton Ross of Jackson, Miss., apparently is having second thoughts.

Ross made his commitment in August despite never having visited campus. He told Scout.com then that he "liked what (the Buckeyes) did with Evan Turner last year."

But last week he told his hometown newspaper, The Clarion-Ledger, that while he is committed to Ohio State and feels it "is the best school for me right now," he might not sign until April.

He might be reconsidering Mississippi State, with whom two AAU teammates, Rodney Hood and Deville Smith, are expected to sign this week.

"They're like brothers," the AAU team's coach, Omhar Carter, said of the three.

Ross transferred from his Jackson high school to Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J., in January and has written on his Twitter account that he misses home and eating Bryan Juicy Jumbo hotdogs"Do they sell those in Columbus, man?"

Life Center Academy coach Wilson Arroyo said in an e-mail last week that he believed Ross would make an official visit to Ohio State this weekend. But Arroyo has not responded since to calls and e-mails attempting to confirm the visit.

Meanwhile, 6-2 point guard Shannon Scott of Alpharetta, Ga., 6-7 wing Sam Thompson of Chicago and 6-9 forward Trey McDonald of Battle Creek, Mich., are likely to sign their letters today, the first day of the weeklong signing period.

Scott and Thompson, as well as Ross, are ranked among the top 60 players nationally by a consensus of recruiting services.

The class could grow by one before the signing period ends. Amir Williams, a 6-10 center from Detroit, will visit campus this weekend and decide whether to sign with Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue, Florida or DePaul.

Williams, the fourth-ranked center in the nation, is expected to attend the season opener against North Carolina A&T on Friday in Value City Arena and the football game against Penn State on Saturday.

Another source said there is "no doubt" that Mississippi State is trying to make a move on Ross and force the turnover.

in college? I assume Hood will play the 3. I'm not sure that Ross has the size to play the 4 or the willingness if he projecting himself as an Evan Turner type player.

But I asked Paul at BDJ about this after the CL blog post and he said that regardless of what Ross said, there has never been interest on our part.
