Top 5 guesses of positive things to be said at that practice or before season that when you look back in April you will laugh......

1. Player V has been the most improved player and is in the mix for the starting power forward (4).
2. Player W is the shooter with the most range we have seen since Quincy Douby
3. Player X has put on 15 pounds all muscle
4. Player Y is expected be in contention for rookie of the year
5. We knew player Z could score and had a good handle, but his defense has surprised the coaching staff.

I’m pretty sure Rothstein just copies and pastes these from year to year after a quick CTRL+H on the names.

These things are useless. Stopped listening to rothstein after going into once ncaa tournament he said 15th seeded Iona would beat 2 seed Ohio state and set up an epic st Patrick’s day second round Iona-Notre dame.

Andy Katz gushing for years about mulchahy being a great “glue” guy . Then mulchahy enters the portal and Katz says no big deal

Would like to see some proof that they are useless comments from Rothstein. What did he say last year and what turned out to be right or wrong???

Without that, it's just more meaningless message board comments.

Show your work.

Cliff having a Jump Hook in the paint is a game changer if he can shoot it with touch...no long line drives thrown at the rim.
That's the one that stood out to me. I take Rothstein with a grain of salt as he tends to be overly rosey about every team. But we're all information-starved so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thought his comments were more creative than what was expected but they said this at the beginning of last year. I’m sure Cliff will be a beast again and hope it’s true.

I remember rothstein going to practice last year and saying cliff improved his offensive game and chol was someone to watch out for. Guy is basically just a PR firm that says whatever the teams tell him to. According to his Twitter every player could be an all American and every team can make the final four.

But he's a " media figure"

It was actually Carino who hyped Chol.

It’s important to understand that most reporters are not good talent evaluators. And by that I mean no better than the average fan.

I read jump hooks as post-up shots and I think the opposite - his usage last year was a step backward for Cliff and the team.
Cliff hunting shots more and dribbling more into shots is a bad thing.
He needs to be catching lobs, rolling off screens, points in transition etc. getting shots in the flow as opposed to posting up as much as he did last season

Now if it means Cliff is finishing much better around the rim and from 8ft in - that's great and maybe the NBA/G League camp experience was a big value for him.
A Jump Hook is such a basic and effective shot for Bigs it is amazing that more don't develop and perfect it. I can only guess that many don't have the touch because you gotta roll it off your fingertips.

You get position in the post, receive the pass, take a one step, (no) dribble right and release the jump hook over your shoulder. You can Bank it off the glass and it's a very high percentage shot. If a defender tries to overplay it, you spin back the other way watching for help defenders.

As fast and explosive as his dunks are,
I can only imagine the speed at which that hook shot approaches the rim.

We better keep someone in the backcourt for rebounds.

But, they think they are and some people think reporters are, lol. It amazes me.

Like the nameless reporter from this site who hyped Cliff as a 1 and Done before he arrived. Or, calling Palmquist one of the most athletic players on the team several years ago.

I agree. I like seeing it as an up-and-under too. It's great for big guards/wings to dribble into as well.

I think it's a more difficult shot than most realize since the release is so far out of the shooter's line of sight.
Repetition, repetition, repetition!
Yep, while perimeter players should be taking 500 threes a day, Cliff should be taking 500 entry passes a day....

1 step jump hook.
1 step jump hook.
1 step jump hook.

Is "Clif has developed a jump hook" the new "Clif has developed a 3pt shot"?

Preseason reports for all sports are about as reliable as other "insider reports".
I'll believe when I see it in a game.

Of all the improvements to make, getting a shooting touch where one wasn't before, is the hardest.

Unless you can hit it at a very high percentage. I'd rather a face up and strong take where you might also draw a foul.

Just shut down the opposition's 5 and get 13+ rebounds per game. Looking for him every time down the floor and him putting the ball on the floor is a recipe for going .500.
