The article explains a lot. It's no wonder Murray seemed distracted in the game. Hopefully the fans' reactions will change once they find out the reason ... not an excuse ... for his poor performance. Sometimes we seem to forget that the players are individuals, and I hope that MSU fans would react differently under similar situations. But it only takes a few to make the masses look bad.

Probably most of the fans were not aware of his dad's situation when they posted such negative things, but one guy who responded to the linked article said "Murray should just play through it". That's ridiculous.

That sucks,....

but my question is why did his dad tell him when he did? Was it a procedure that might result in death? My parents (and in-laws) have temporarily concealed all sorts of medical things over the years for one reason or another. Unless I thought I wasn't going to come out of that operating room, I wouldn't have told my son within hours of arguably the biggest game of his career.
Note that this isn't some attempt to vilify the father; I'm simply curious if this is yet another facet of modern societal values and priorities that don't match my own family's.

Wow. Its things like this that kills some of the appeal of college football....

http://www.rantsports.com/ncaa-foot...ball-aaron-murrays-dad-diagnosed-with-cancer/

1. Dad was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer.
2. Gets crushed in the biggest game of his career.
3. Angry UGA fans egged his house late Saturday night.

I know the sport is enormously popular and there is a lot of money involved but it is JUST A GAME! Here is a young man who has worked extremely hard for a very long time and is actually out there competing and putting it on the line for his team and his school and what does he get for his trouble? Some jackasses, who probably haven't ever walked on a football field and were probably sleeping till 12:00 every day in the summer when Murray was practicing multiple hours every day, decide to egg his house because he didn't play well enough. Absolutely shameful.
