We're headed up to Little Rock from Starkville this weekend for the game. Other than going through Little Rock on I-40 enroute to Lawton, OK, I've never been there. Mapquest, and a few people, say that going up I-55 to Memphis and across I-40 is the best way to go. Others have said to take HWY 82 to Greenville and go up through Pine Bluff.

Has anyone been to Little Rock via Greenville and Pine Bluff? What are the roads like? Places to stop? I'll be traveling with wife and three kids so you can bet we'll have to stop every hour at least for a pee break!!!

Thanks for any info and advice.

I thought the roads were fine. The MS River bridge in Greenville is scary as hell, but everything else is good and you can stop in Lake Village to use the bathroom. Pine Bluff to LR is interstate I believe.

....from Starkville, I don't know that one particular route is better than the other, but it's about 25 miles shorter going over to Greenville then going up US 65 to Pine Bluff and taking 530 to Little Rock. Whatever way you go, once you enter the Natural State itself, it will be boring as hell.

US 65 in Arkansas isn't bad. Most of it is four-laned now. The only advice I would give you (and Dawgstudent would concur with) is to obey all posted speed limits within the towns along the route.

Thanks 8Dog and vhdawg. We'll probably try Greenville for a change of scenery. I was bored as "17" on I-40 so I guess I'll try a new road to be bored on!

I just hope the drive is worth it!!!!

its four lane. All you do from there is take US highway 63 or 65 i can't remember which to pine bluff, then take I530 to LR. Its an easy drive and usually no traffic. I'm going from starkville as well and this is the way we're going.

I drive to Little Rock from Starkville fairly often since the inlaws live there and I am set on going through Greenville and Pine Bluff. It takes a little longer than I40 but I got sick of fighting the cluster17 of 18wheelers that funnel into there. As mentioned in the thread, obey all speed limits around the small AR towns especially Grady and Gould. I've heard they will get you for like 5 over.

Well, I took the Delta route to Little Rock last night. HWY 82 through the Delta SUCKED....TOO MANY RED LIGHTS and once you crossed into Arkansas, there was NOTHING!!!! Most boring night drive I've ever made. People in Arkansas seem to drive 5 MPH UNDER the speed limit and I got behind ALL of them after I crossed the river bridge.....which was an experience in itself.

But, on the positive side. I was traveling with three kids age 4-8 so frequent stops. For those with kids, there are 14 McDonalds along this route between Starkville and Little Rock.

We'll probably go home the same way tomorrow just to see all the nothing in the day light.

Staying at the Peabody. It's nive and so far I agree with the recommendations. Ran into several players and coaches last night and this morning. They all seemed pumped up.

Countdown to the game. Kids want IHOP then I get FOOTBALL!!!!
