Hey Rowdies,

We'll be having a meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at the HUMP. T-shirt pickup/sign up will start at 6, the meeting will start at about 630.

Also, in the on going effort to grow the Rick's Rowdies beyond the 300 members we currently have, we have decided to make it easier for you to get points. Here's how.

1. For exhibition games and non-conference games, we will be giving you one bonus point per game. These non conference games are important, just like the SEC play, so you will be getting 3 points instead of 2 per game.

2. If you recruit a new Rowdie, you will receive 3 points for every person you recruit. That's more points than an SEC game is worth.

With your help we can make this year the best the Rick's Rowdies has ever seen! For all you at the game on Saturday, thank you! It was a great way to start the season!

One more note: For this coming exhibition game, we will have a table set up outside the student gate signing people and taking roll. Make sure you check in with us there or find one of the officers at some point during the game to check in. Once the regular season gets started, we will start the check-in as planned.

YYYYYYEAAA its basketball season again..
everyone knows its my favorite time of the year Cause the paCk gets to rip on the rowdies now.

Preface: some ******** went down between me and some in the rowdies but ***** straight now and Im baCk with them.

1st off, people are going to hate..Call it lame and such because yes the group has gotten worse sinCe the BSU took it over.
Those days are gone.. JOHN SPARKS tried to kill it the last two years but now their is finally some leadership and structure in the group
and working with the school.

Everyone Can laugh and such about the point system, but this is how real student groups work...I have done a good bit of research into this over the past
3 years. Schools such as Florida, Michigan State, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Texas...they all rules and rewards for the seating structure.

The key to the organization is getting people involved and supporting it. This has never happened in the past due to a lack of leadership, goals, or a vision.
The Rowdies have always been nothing but a group people joined to get a t-shirt,...if they even did that (Could buy t-shirt at the lodge)
For the rowdies to work, the members have to have more invested into the group than a $15 t-shirt.
The point system is part of the incentives to get people involved.

-Do your point system or whatever, but if a student not in the club gets there 5 hours before the Wig man or any other Rowdies Higher up, they better not get a worse seat because they are not allowed to sit in the "Rowdies First Class Section"

-Ban Candyman from the student section

- Recruit attractive girls

- Don't try to keep other students from shouting negative things at the opponents, or the coach of our biggest rival who just had just been arrested for assaulting a cabbie, and then his wife comes out and says it hurt their sex life

if you guys are actually able to make some strides to be organized then go for it. i would much rather think that our student group dedicated to basketball is badass than think it is a bunch of loosely associated wanna bees who sign up for a white t-shirt.

/it would also be cool if more than those three lonely guys bounce up and down while yelling "oooooooohhhhhh" during certain parts of the game. either all together or not at all is the way to go.

There are going to be some growing pains now that you have decided to make it more organized. Stick with it, get the members to buy off on it, and turn it into something that will help our team win. Ignoring the haters is going to be difficult because many people are so self concious that whenever anyone acts differently, they immedialtly look down on them. These are the people that are too scared to act in the moment for fear of being ridiculed so perhaps they are envious.

I am fully aware that some people hate the rowdies for personal reasons. That is a completely different situation.

It is obvious that Stans wants it, that Meo wants it and the players want it. - Stick with it and get some genuine buy off and you will be successful.

Why have a special group of students who are more important than the rest of the students? The Rowdies (or a group like it) weren't in existence 12-14 years ago when I was there and the student section was plenty loud and plenty of fun.

Don't think that will catch on for 2 reasons
1) Our fanbase doesn't like changes
2) Its very homo-gay

It would almost be as bad as the "We got some dogs up in here, woof woof" chant

ETA no matter how much I dislike that chant I still can't help but answer "woof woof" when im hammered at the game

You are correct that Mr. Sparks (no relation), along with a .500 SEC team in 2006-07, ruined what little structure was left in that group.

I don't think the point system sounds like a good way to go to get new people in the group, but I don't know how student groups function at other universities. The newer chants also suck. Chanting people's names 2 or 3 times after they hit a shot is kind of lame. You don't get the rest of the crowd involved by chanting something for 8 seconds then switching to something else.

When I was a student in 03/04 and 04/05, I joined for these 2 reasons.
1. free Papa John's at the Thursday meetings. anything free while I was in college, count me in
2. road trips. we went to LSU on a chartered bus one of those years for $30, including the ticket</p>

is another student really going to be able to tell them to move? "Excuse me Mr. Usher, but all those students did is show up earlier than I did for good seats. They don't have a cool kids button and a cool kids t-shirt and didn't sign in with the cool kids hall monitor. Make them move please." If I'm an usher, I tell snotnose #2 that it's general student admission seating and to get to the game earlier next time. Then I probably pop him in the lip, but that's just me and not behavior I condone from others.

Find something else to ***** about. The first time a student group actually tries to get people involved and the pack decides its cool to ***** about it. You are about as uncool as some of the guys who are in the rowdies. Just go sit on the other side if you don't want to have your seat taken by some Rick's Rowdies geek squad. If it does not work and enough people e mail Byrne about the situation then it will be fixed. As bad as they look on TV with the 300 pound hamburger chicks, I would rather see them than some complaining piece of **** dude sitting on the second row wearing a blue shirt texting his friend about how awesome the Nickelback concert was the night before. Save that for the upper deck where I sit.

Let them do what they do and hopefully they will draw more members and realize that they need to get cool shirts and be organized like ACC schools are. I'm sure nobody is going to move you if you get there early enough to sit where they sit. However, if you want to sit that low you might as well be in their group anyway.

I just wish everyone could get on the same page with the "GO State!!" cheer...some people are chanting to keep up with the music. Others seem like they're in a hurry to say "hell" and "damn right".....especially on the cheer that continues after tipoff when the music has stopped....Has anybody else noticed this??

Think about how this point system works and you will find it does honor those who get there early for games...games like Rider, SE Louisiana, Bethune-Cookman, Texas-Pan Am, etc.. It always made me upset when I used to get there 3 hours early for games like these every single night, but then the least little thing hold me up the nights UK, UT, OM play us, and I am banished to the upper deck. All the while watching a group of girls and guys come to their first game of the year and do not even know who our center is and sit and piddle on the front rows playing on their Ipods and making the student section look like schmucks. Now, with a point system, if by random I cannot get there as early as usual, I can still get a great seat and holler with the best of them. So, I get rewarded for getting there early in my opinion.</p>

I was told something like the priority seating was going to start. After I learned they were NOT going to do the priority system BECAUSE of Templeton, I left the Rowdies. The priority system deal was Rick's baby and Templeshit fought him on it.

My problem was your exact problem. Most of the games I had great seats and waited in line for a while. But sometimes, especially the huge games, it just wasn't practical. People can only save so many seats.

I don't see the problem with rewarding people for going to every game instead of just the big ones.

I think the biggest point people are missing is this. The priority system doesn't necessarily encourage the growth of the Rowdies, who people on this board really hate for some reason. The priority system encourages STUDENT support.

It's really simple to me. I don't know how it will work but I would imagine something like this. If you want good seats, sign up through the Rowdies for the priority system. Does it cost money to join? I don't know. But if they give you a T-shirt and you don't want to wear it, burn it. Then, go to the non-conference games in non-gay, non-Rowdy attire accompanied by non-porker chicks(even though we all know BSU porkers give the best head). Instant Rowdy points. Continue to go the non-conference games and get your priority seat for a big game. Show up for a big game an hour before tip (I would assume there would be some time limit on the reservation of seats) in your non-gay, non-Rowdy attire accompanied by non-porker chicks. Front five rows.

Problem solved. You get your seats, the team gets your support in ALL games, you don't have to wear Rowdy attire, you don't have to sit next to BSU porker chicks (you can still use the porkers on a Sunday night after church).

was the year after the SEC championship game when they let the rowdies get their student season tickets early. THAT is why I joined. I just took my t-shirt and never had to wait in line or worry about getting in.

Can someone give those of us that have never cared a run down of the seating process for rowdies at the game? Does the group take it upon themselves to get to the games early enough and stake their claim on the spot they usually sit? Or, does the University rope off an area for them to use?

For the time being, I'm going to assume that they are guaranteed some space by MSU. First off, I have no problem with that concept. Douchey as the Rowdies may be, there is nothing wrong with the school wanting to implement a way of getting the people that get fired up most about the games the prime real-estate. However, this concept of "growing" the rowdies beyond the 300 they already have is overkill. 300 rowdies at each game is plenty enough to get the point across and to make their presence know to rest of the Hump.

The Rowdie's mission as a group should be to identify the top 300 students that are really good at cheering, dressing up, being obnoxious, etc. etc., attend most (if not, all) games, and getting them seated in the right spot to get in the opposing team's ear. Nothing more. Anything beyond that, then it becomes just a method to get a good seat. If you happen to be #301 - I'm sorry. Get there early, find you a good spot, wear a maroon shirt, and yell like the rest of the students. You should be learning life lessons in college. Consistent preferential treatment is not one of those. Rick's Rowdies is NOT a resume booster and is not a prerequisite to success. It's a luxury for a select few and you should not have your feelings hurt if you don't get the special section. Cry me a river from the section next to the Rowdies if it means that much to you.

If the University wants to rope off an area for them, they need to cap it and that be the end of it. The Rowdies can do whatever they want as far as allocating the seats in the reserved section. If 1,000 people sign up to be Rowdies - tough ****. They can figure out how to get the most passionate people in the reserved seating (which I assume is what the point system is all about). If they don't consistently fill the section with 300 loud students, then Rowdies fail at their mission and the University should let the general student population have the seats. It's really a simple concept.

Is there something obvious that I missing? Why does this have to be more complicated than it really is?

do you feel the same about the Bulldawg Club point system. Or were you the ones that championed that change? In other words, did you feel that a change should be made to allow those with more giving to sit lower in the Hump? Those old ticket holders got there before you did with all of your points. Why should they have had to move just because you have more points?

And please, I understand that has to do with money so don't point that out. Maybe you should realize that the students should have the right to earn points some way and get good seats for being dedicated. Yes I also understand that they could give to the BC. But how many of them have the disposable income to really do that and get basketball tickets?

There is a fundemental difference in having a problem with the leadership that runs the organization and the organization itself. If you have a problem with the leadership don't just get on here everyday and ***** about it to us. Do something about it yourself.

Why is it ever a bad thing that students are trying to do something to support MSU academically or athletically?

in some section of the Athletic Dep't and give them responsibility of organizing the Rowdies and other student groups of its ilk. I can see why some feel that a loyalty or attendance points system is necessary, but as long as it's students making rules for other students, there's going to be a lot of resentment and claims of favoritism. With a university rep controlling things, there will be some clout to their rule system.
