There are times when it pays to really enjoy watching a pitching duel... I actually tuned in for the whole game because I wanted to watch Josh Johnson vs. Roy Halladay...

It took a perfect game to break their losing streak. I think they've scored like 4 runs in over 50 innings or something like that. But the trade is working great so far, a lot of times the big name pitchers suck *** after a big trade.

I watch the Cardinals just about every day... and they haven't hit the ball worth a damn for about 2 weeks.

The Phillies are just in a rut right now... no way the stay in it very long withHoward, Utley, Rollins, Werth, Ibanez, and Victorino in that lineup...

I've been on the Roy Halladay bandwagon since about 2000. That guy goes out and pitches 220 innings every year... he's such a workhorse. Very rare to find someone that good who can throw 125 pitches a night.

So far, their trade has been good... but something tells me that giving up Kyle Drabek and the other stud prospect to upgrade from Cliff Lee (already a top 10 ML pitcher) to Roy Halladay (a top 3 pitcher) might not be worth it.</p>

Slumps and such are part of the game. MLB is about making adjustments when things aren't going so well, and it's constant thing where players- pitchers and hitters alike- have to continually make those adjustments to stay in the Big Leagues throughout not just the season, but throughout their career. I really think that's the main difference between guys that are in AAA and guys that are in MLB in general- the ablility to adjust.

But in baseball, the season is so long that the players typically have things balance out in the end. And that's just the way it works.

As a Cardinals fan myself, I am actually a little worries about Albert Pujols. To me, it seems like he has gone from using all fields to becoming almost a dead pull hitter. I can't figure that out, and I wonder why he doesn't seem to be going opposite field as much as he used to.

As far as Halladay- I think it just depends on how much longer he can pitch at this level vs how Drabek and the other prospect turn out. I've seen Drabek play before, and I just don't think he will ever be in Halladay's class as a pitcher, but I might be wrong.

First of all, I honestly haven't seen much difference between the hitting this year and last year.

I think part of it, to be honest with you, is the fact that it is Albert Pujols, and I think that some people may be afraid to say something to him because of his reputation as being the best hitter in the game in the eyes of many people. And I don't necessarily know if it's "fear" or that they think that he will correct it himself or what. Of course, regarding the hitting coach, he has to have the balls to tell the guys like Pujols what to do if there's a problem because that's his job, so I certainly think that some of that is on McGwire for sure. I don't know if Pujols is trying to hit more home runs with it being his contract year, or what.

The job discription of a MLB hitting coach is basically helping hitters adjust and correct things throughout the year. And so far, McGwire hasn't done a great job with that.

Now that said, in the issue of fairness, I do want to see how the team does over the course of the year, and also next year to see if there is any progress or trends good or bad before I totally want him thrown out the door.

I will also say this- McGwire was/is one of my favorite players of all time. I think he should be in the HOF regardless of his steroid use. So, I would also like for him to succeed as a hitting coach, and so far he has been average.

His strikeout total is way up from where it normally is this time of year. He is swinging at bad pitches and not making good contact on others. He is starting to swing a little better as of late.

Holliday is a streaky hitter and usually starts the season off slow but he heats up when the weather heats up.

One of the strange cases this year is Skip Schumaker. The guy has been terrible against left handed pitching his entire career but is batting over .300 against them this year. He normally is great against rightys and is batting somewhere around .150 this year.

I think Pujols is just not 100% healthy. He had some lower back issues in the spring and has been seen limping a few times in the last couple of weeks. If it is something minor , I would expect him to return to the Albert of old soon.

He has homered today for the second time in 4 days , so maybe He is coming around.

Seems to have busted his slump. All of the sudden, those May power numbers don't look so bad.
