Since I live in Richmond, I was wondering... Did UK ever had Roy Kidd in their coaching searches?

I'm answering this with a super-foggy memory. I seem to recall he was mentioned in passing I think around the time Claiborne was hired. Could've been afterward however. I don't know if he was ever seriously considered but could've received a "courtesy" interview. Hagan was too preoccupied thinking up reasons not to hire Schenellenberger.

They did interview him. More of a courtesy interview more than anything, but yes they did

I believe it was serious. You don't courtesy interview in that case. He had EKU on a high level, however my memory(shaky at best at 72) seems to recall there was some scandal at EKU at that time(it may have been right after the Claude Bassett scandal) and torpedoed Roy's big opportunity.

I think he was considered when Brooks was hired but I could be wrong.

Probably not, he was around 70 then. Of course, Brooks was getting pretty long in the tooth too.

The excuse give by Newton for not hiring KIDD was that his run first Offense was to bland so he hired Curry and required him to bring in a pass first Bowden who only stayed one year and it seemed much like Coach Stoops reign as he changed O.C. almost ever year and each was more conservative then the prior of course he never recruited like Stoops. Curry brought a staff from Ala. and never recruited ALA. To make sure that didn't happen to him again Newton brought in a pass happy Mumme. Kidd was bringing a lot of players from Florida it would have been interesting to have seen if he could have used his connections to bring SEC calibers players from Florida. I think Kidd as with Curry offered to change his offense to get the job but Curry was to big a name to pass up..

That is so true. Cliff Hagan was the absolute worst athletic director any D1 school could have ever hired. He is reviled today by many in Lexington for his inability to do anything more than get paid on his reputation as one of Adolph Rupp's best players of his era. If you want to trace the downfall of UK athletics, look no further than his time as AD.

Don't know if he would have worked out at UK but there were a lot of UK fans years ago wondering why UK wouldn't give Kidd a try, knowing some of those EKU teams could beat Kentucky. EKU went to UL in 1985 and won 45-21.

Hard to imagine Coach Kidd being a candudate at UK when Brooks
I think he was considered when Brooks was hired but I could be wrong.

Doubt it. Kidd retired in '03 and his style was beginning to struggle in the OVC. We always heard there was some interest in the 80's after the back to back national championships but politically they were worried about how it would fly at UK and EKU. They aren't quite the friendliest of neighbors despite the fact you have a lot of EKU grads/UK fans like myself. so I don't think anything ever materialized.

There was a reason he was waxing everyone else and winning those national championships. He had top division one level athletes playing at Eastern because either they could not qualify academically or they were transfers from the top division who did not want to sit out a year. He was never going to get those athletes at UK.
