I am hearing that the Cardinals are the front runners- interesting. I would love to see it happen. Just like when the Cardinals got Will Clark. That was awesome because it worked out so well.

Rumor is that Oswalt has always wanted to play for the Cardinals and is willing to defer his option demand.

Also, if you are an Astros fan from Weir- lesson #1 of being a Cardinals fan. Clap when they play the Budweiser song before the 8th inning.

The Cardinals farm system is pretty sad right now. Shelby Miller is supposed to be involved, but I hope the Stros get more than that.

I hope the astros get some prospects that are good. Our farm system is the worst in the league

I figure that the Astros will get at least three players, with one likely being Shelby Miller, and I have no idea who the other two would be. I suspect that one might be Jon Jay because he is very close to being MLB ready, and the Cardinals have a pretty deep outfield. I don't think Stavinoa will be in the deal because he is on the DL, but he would be a good pick up for the Astros, I think. The Cardinals also have Bryan Anderson, a catcher that has made the MLB Futures Game, who is kind of stuck at AAA. He is more of an offensive catcher.

I'm guessing that the Astros may want to cut Carlos Lee in the near future, so they are probably going to want someone to go with Hunter Pence out there.

I'm sure that the Astros would gladly take any young pitching available as well.

Look up JD Martinez, dude is raking. He is shooting up prospect lists. We also have some studs in Jordan Lyles and Jiovanni Mier (rough season but still a big prospect), Jay Austin and just signed a STUD dominican named Ariel Ovando. Castro and Chris Johnson look like serviceable major leaguers too.

Other decent prospects are Chia-Jen Lo, Ross Seaton, Sammy Gervacio, and Koby Clemens, who all of the sudden is dropping bombs.

And dont forget about Grant Hogue!

Lots of mixed emotions. One moron called in and said they should trade him to the Cardinals so he'll go get "shelled" for them, instead of us...

I like the idea of acquiring Oswalt and would be willing to part with Shelby Miller in doing so. But if not, I still think we'll be fine. Penny and Lohse are both on the mend and will hopefully be back pitching by the end of August. Ludwick hit a 2 run bomb in his first re-hab at-bat in Memphis. Freese, although he broke his toe lifting weigths, shouldn't be out any longer than he was already supposed to be.

Tough loss today though... you gotta tip your hat to Hamels and move onto the Cubs. I'm a little leary of Hawksworth and Suppan to start for us Friday/Saturday... but I'm looking forward to Carpenter Sunday night... He seems to always pitch well against the Cubs.

Wait, I wasn't a Cardinals fan the first time. Just a fan of The Thrill.

I've always wanted Oswalt with the Cards. Also, Chris Paul talking about joining the Magic. Could be a good year for all my teams.

while he still has value. He can hit for power, but he strikes out too much and is terrible defensively. And not that baseball players are rocket scientists, but he is dumb as a box of rocks.<div>

I have been nothing but impressed with Jay, especially the way he drives the ball the other way. I wouldn't say Colby is terrible defensively. He gets very good jumps, and can cover alot of ground. That said, his arm may be the worst OF arm in baseball. I bet I have saw him throw home twice and the ball hit the ground before it got to 2nd base. If they could move Rasmus and hang on to Shelby Miller to get Oswalt then I don't think I would be opposed to it.

Just wanted to add, Matt Holiday makes more dumb mistakes on the base paths than any Cardinal I have ever saw. They should make him watch 2 hours of video a day of Scott Rolen running the bases.

It's simply amazing how people can spin words with such ease on this board.

As far as Rasmus needing to be dumped.... that's just absurd. Only a moron would think that he's not going to be a key contributor to any team he plays on.

You probably thought it was absurd to trade J D Drew, too.<div>
</div><div>Based on your posting history about baseball, if you're against it, its probably a damn good idea.</div><div>

</div><div>I'm not usually a big fan of Tony Larussa, but he's been around long enough to know where a player's headed. I sense that if it was up to LR, Rasmus would have been gone a long time ago.</div><div>
</div><div>There are still people in baseball who think Rasmus is as good as our resident cardinal homers do. They'll eventually see the light, too.</div><div>

We got Wainwright who's turned into one of the top 5 pitchers in the NL.... We got a few semi-decent years out of Jason Marquis... and Ray King did a great job as our lefty specialist in his stint.

You clowns need to stop with this homer stuff... I'm quick to criticize my own when they deserve. Just keep on assuming that I think Cardinals players are better than everyone elses... etc... It just makes you look more stupid.

Also, please explain, other than a high strikeout rate, why Colby Rasmus won't contribute going forward, since you seem to think his career has peaked.

Ask Ryan Howard about high strikeout rates on non-production. I ain't saying Colby is going to lead a Hall-of-Fame career or anything... but he'll be a contributor on ANY team that he plays for. He's too talented not to.

Hind sight is 20/20, isn't it homer?<div>
</div><div>The Cardinals are in an excellent position to deal Rasmus. They have a guy who is ready to take his spot and as I mentioned in another post, there are people in baseball who are as gullible as you when it comes to Rasmus.

But just go on assuming that you think you know exactly what I'm thinking.

You don't have to hate me because I told you that UK would get beat by WVU... it's ok to be wrong.

Again... please explain why Rasmus sucks. I'd like to read it. Or you canjust keep avoiding things like facts like his statsand keep posting opinions like "he's too stupid".

And please, before you crown Jon Jay our starting CF'er for the rest of the century, let him atleast get to 100career AB.

Let me go on the record by saying this... Houston is looking for a new CF. Bourn has been riding the pine a LOT lately in lieu of Jason Bourgeouis (sp?)... and I could see Houston pushing for Rasmus in a trade for Roy Oswalt. I could easily see Jon Jay being traded as well. I wish we'd get rid of Brendan Ryan though, although reports have said Houston rejected a trade involving him.</p>

What are you, 12? I don't have to hate you? Seriously, junior. <div>
</div><div>I've explained that Rasmus strikes out a lot and is bad defensively (another Cardinal fan even said he had the worst OF arm in the Big Leagues). He never plays against lefties. There was an article in the Post Dispatch a month or two back about him being yanked out of a game for loafing.</div><div>
</div><div>Rasmus himself admitted he really didn't know a whole lot about anything other than baseball.</div><div>
</div><div>And once aGain, it is clear that Larussa isn't high on him by the way he uses him.</div><div>
</div><div>Anything else, homer?</div>

Rasmus hasn't played great defensively. I've never argued that.... but he's in his second year. Give him time to develop. He covers a ton of ground out there. He'll be just fine.

And LaRussa uses everyone but Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday in erratic ways. He's the KING of playing matchups, whether they work or not. Rasmus has started78 out of98 games in CF. He's played in every game but 6 of them... and 2 of those were missed because of a stained calf and he's pinch-hit in a lot of games recently because of a hamstring issue. Seems to me like LaRussa squeezes everything out of him that he can. But then again, these stat thingies are tricky to you, so you might not quite understand it.

doesn't change the fact that he's been on championship teams. Just to show you what idiots the players are, he had a pretty damn good year in '09 so that doesn't really say a whole lot.

Solely his arm... and it's awful. Ask your boy Brock. We made fun of him every day when he lived with me. It's atrocious. I bet he can't break 65 mph on a radar gun.

That being said, Damon has his place on any MLB roster. He's definitely as asset offensively. However, if he's supposed to throw out runners every night, he's not the one I want throwing. He obviously knows how to play for championships too.

Relative towards Tony LaRussa, who posseses a law degree from Florida State University and is widely considered one of the most "heady" managers in the game. If you take that quote to mean that Colby Rasmus is "stupid", you're the moron.

to dispute your point, but Damon does at least have some hardware.
Rings are a better measure of teams than they are of players. BillCartwright and Trent Dilfer have rings while Patrick Ewing and Dan Marino do not.
