Look, I am an Astros fan, but it should be pretty clear that Oswalt did not use steroids. I feel pretty confident saying Berkman and Biggio never touched the stuff either. Those guys are of pretty high moral fiber.

Bagwell....who is my all-time favorite...I am not so confident about.

during the time he was using. Oswault could have been using stuff like hgh that won't make you huge. I just don't believe any of them anymore.

Oswalt was throwing near 90mph off of the mound without winding up. He would just take a step and throw it. His mechanics were horrible. When they worked on that and got it somewhat corrected, he was hitting mid to low 90's. He was just an ole country boy with a hell of a cannon and he didn't know how to use it.

Im pretty confident that Oswalt never used steroids or HGH.

A friend of mine is good friends with Oswalt, and from what he says about him he would be to tight to pay for it. Said Roy is so tight that he ends up picking up the check about half the time when they go out to eat, he said Roy is very slow to reach when the check is brought out.

Sorry I am not a Steroids expert. I would still bet my bank account Oswalt never used.
but to base ones use on "physical" appearance and "moral" fiber is pretty ignorant and shortsighted

he would hit mid 90's with awful mechanics. During practice a few times i stood in the box while my buddy caught and roy pitched. The damn thing was hummin...All they talked about then was his mechanics and how bad they were yet he still wore those mits out. Nasty stuff

So now I am ignorant and shortsighted.

Here is what I know. Sure, there are steroids that don't make you blow up like Jose Canseco. Windstrol? Something like that? However, you tell me what the first indication that ANYONE gets to make them believe that someone is taking steroids? They get bigger, more muscular/ripped, etc. A-Rod was a moose to begin with. It is a whole lot easier to mask those types of gains if you are already built like 17ing Secretariat. Look at all the other guys that have been linked to roids. McGwire, huge. Sosa, huge. Clemens, huge. Bonds, huge. Giambi, huge. Raffy, huge - comparatively speaking. Forgive me for having a skewed perception, but I just don't see guys like Roy Oswalt and Tim Lincecum who are 180 pounds soaking wet of nothing but bone and tightly-wound ligament as steroid users. If you are going to lump me and the other 97% of the public in that category as "ignorant" so be it.

Moreover, if moral fiber has nothing to do a player's decision to refrain from taking PEDs, what does? Health concerns? Please, these guys don't give a **** about that. People have been juicing for decades now and you aren't seeing many stories on Outside the Lines about the health of those players. Sure, there are serious health implications, but they don't give a damn about that because they are not seeing any hard evidence of the toll it has taken on retired players. So I am ignorant for saying someone with high moral fiber probably didn't juice. Explain that please. Other than saying morals are relative, I don't know how you could. It is widely known that Berkman and Biggio are salt of the earth type guys. For an athlete, the decision about whether or not to take PED's is purely a moral/ethical decision. Am I going to play fair or am I going to go for the edge? That is it.

That is my take. You (and others) might disagree, but it is hardly shortsighted or ignorant.

When A-Rod was a Mariner in the mid-90's he was probably in the 190-195 pound range. What is he now, 225-230?

I think a lot of them have used. I have a small list in my head of who I don't think ever did. Roy Oswalt is on that list.

I was a batboy for the Jackson Generals (Astros AA) from 97-99, last 3 years of the team. Saw lots of players come and go. Looking back on it, i will agree i don't think Berkman ever touched anything more than gatorade. He was probably one of the most genuine people i met during the whole time i worked there. We played an exibition game with the Astros in 97, and I remember Bagwell was pretty huge, Biggio not so much. Derek Bell was pretty big as well.

bagwell HAD to have been juicing. sure, he was always a big dude. but in his later years, he got huge. then, after the steroid fiasco began, he literally shrunk and began having shoulder problems. the speculation is that he got off the roids to avoid getting caught and struggled afterward, ultimately leading to his retirement.

did caminiti ever say anything about juicing? i thought he did, and it would make sense for bagwell to have been in on it too, as they got huge in houston at the same time. bell may have been in on it at the same time. i don't think biggio was a long-time user, but i wouldn't be surprised if he did it for a year or two around that time (the thought of which saddens me).

I've never seen a guy go from All-Star and bat-flipper to out of the big leagues as fast as Brett Boone.

the stuff. Hell, the guy is afraid to drink a beer. He is actually anti-workout. He said the only reason why he works out is because everyone else does.

Biggio, doubt it. But the guy is stronger than new rope.

Bags, I love the guy, but it wouldnt suprise me one bit.

i grew up playing against him all my life and even in 9-10 yr old league when the kids themselves started pitching, he already had a name for himself. we always had to prepare and play our best pitcher when played against Simpson. through little league, it was the same story. luckily, being from the same county, we ended up being on the same all-star team together. it was a priviledge to play on the same team w him. later on i played against him when he was at weir high school, then was a very entertained spectator at holmes comm college. it was a real honor to be friends with this kid that all these scouts game to watch and gun. long story long....i know him. he comes from a fine family. i was best friends with his wife growing up (in fact they came to visit me for a spell about 2 months ago). i can vouch for his character, morals, and respect for the game not to take any enhancements (besides wieghts). God gave him enough talent.

...it's true that a lot of steriod users bulk up, but you can also be on steroids or HGH and not be a musclehead. With the right weight program, you can build lean muscle instead of bulk. That's why saying, "look at him, there's no way he did steroids" is a legitimate defense.

I'm not saying Oswalt did it. He probably didn't. But it's possible for guys without muscle mass to be juicing.

Didn't he go from a nobody to hitting 55 home runs a year and then just fell off the face of the earth?

edited to add this stat:

Brady Anderson home runs by year:

1993 - 13
1994 - 12
1995 - 16
1996 - BOOM...50 Dingers

it was late in his career and he was trying to recover from an injury. Of course, his big problem was using drugs. Sad, sad story.

He played for the legendary Kenny Dupont at Holmes! Anybody who has played for or even met Dupont can appreciate what I'm saying.

I'd say Roy's diligence is due more to respect and fear of his daddy and high school coach.

AA - Coach Gant could still whoop any of us

There was someone from Holmes CC that was always setting up tryout camps for the Orioles, and I think it was him.

completely forgot about Brady Anderson. Like you said, went from nothing to the homerun derby in 1 year.
