btw, I'm a Red Sox fan, although I'm not as fanatical about it as I am about the Dallas Cowboys. I've always liked the Red Sox because they've had Mississippi players on them over the years, plus I guess I have a soft spot for dysfunctional clubhouses.

He built his parents a place out there and he has quite a setup out there himself. Supposedly likes the deer stand as much as the mound.

And I know he went to high school at Weir, as he eliminated my high school from the playoffs one year. Can't say u played against him, as I was a 7th grader. Don't know the area though, Weir and French Camp may be real close together. I know one of the tornadoes over the last couple years did a number on his parents home. I like the signing. Don't think the cards trust both Lohse and Westbrook to be very good and both have no trade clauses. Bringing in an Oswalt might entice one or both to consider waiving their clause. Not that Oswalt has the needs that most veteran pitchers who come to STL have, you know Dunc would be gitty to work with him, but I don't think Dunc is leaning towards returning since his wife is still in very bad health.

from the Cardinals end (allegedly). If they sign Oswalt, they may go with a 6 man rotation at the beginning of the year. Why? Because Carpenter is old and threw a ton last year including the postseason, Wainwright is coming back from Tommy John, Garcia and Lohse wore down as the year went along, and then Westbrook sucks. I can't stand him.

And as far as no trade clauses- remember that doesn't necessarily mean a player can't be traded. It just means that the player has more of a say in where they are traded. For eample, if Westbrook doesn't want to play for the Astros, he can use the clause. If he wants to play for them, he can "revoke" it.

What they may do is start the year out, figure out that Westbrook still sucks, tell him that he is moving to the bullpen and if he doesn't like it, they can trade him or release him.

And as you said, they are likely going to lose Lohse and Westbrook next year- they will probably replace once with Shelby Miller and they can replace the other with Oswalt- with a one year deal at a low rate- and then I think they will let Berkman walk too- and replace him with Matt Adams. If they have a brain, they will extend/re-sign Wainwright and then go after someone like Josh Hamilton next year with the 25-30 million that they are saving among others.

I live a few miles from Roy's house, which is between French Camp and Weir. He has his house and restaurant (which is out of business) for sale. He has a house being built in Starkville. Rumor is that he wanted his kids to go to school in Ackerman but the school board would not allow it bc he lives in the Weir district. So he's moving to Starkville. His relative told me a while back that he would go to St. Louis or retire.

In my post I specifically stated that the signing of Oswalt might entice one of them to waive said no-trade clause.
