If we did not change a single game outcome/location, replace the strength of our 2016 opponents with 2015's, our RPI drops from 13 to 40.

Something to keep in mind when next years schedule come out.

Thats why I was glad that we scheduled UCLA USC and Oregon this year. Yeah they didnt work out like they shouldve, but its a lot better than the nonconference weekend series we played last year. I guess we just have to play MVSU and Alcorn but we have a pretty good schedule. I do think ULL is a team you consider scheduling in the future due to RPI but thats under the condition that we never ever travel there. Houston or Rice would also be welcoming additions. But we should def keep USA, Memphis, and USM as they all usually do great in baseball. I think from here on out we need to have two nonconference weekends of power 5 competition with one of those weekends being a road series or road tournament. Maybe you look at the ACC to Florida State or NC State. It wont be hard to get teams to come to our new stadium. We have a road series of some sort with Oregon next year so theres at least one good series. Lets try to bring in a good opponent and we will be in great shape. There is a reason Florida is #1 alomst every year in the RPI.

I look for us to pull back on it a little bit next year. Should be a bit of a rebuild. The extent of which will be defined by the development of the freshman pitchers and the readiness of the incoming class. I did like this schedule more than any of the previous ones under Cohen. Only one gimme weekend all season this year.

Yeah, I would expect the same. I assume there is a return trip to Oregon in 2017. That will likely be it for preconference weekends, if I had to guess. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a Central Ark circa 2013 slip onto the schedule for a couple games.

ULL would be a good team to play in Biloxi. Wish we could get a weekend down there organized where MSU, USM, UM and a team like ULL go down there and play four games each, with MSU and Ole MIss each playing a two game series against USM and ULL. You could also make it work with just MSU and USM and then two other decent RPI teams that are within driving distance.

I was pretty surprised that it was ULM that State played in Biloxi this year. Well, surprised that ULM agreed to it rather than Pearl or Starkville. That's a 4.5 hour drive for them for a neutral game on a Wednesday and they then played AT Arkansas State Fri-Sun, which is 7 hours from Biloxi. That had to have been an expensive trip for them overall. Oh and they went 0-4, so they traveled a ton, likely spent a lot of money unnecessarily, and lost 4 games.

ULL, South Alabama, Troy, Louisiana Tech, and Tulane are some good midmajors that will usually be Top 100 teams that would likely be willing to play in neutral tournaments there. And some northern teams would likely be willing to fly in during the early season, and flying to New Orleans and driving over would likely be cheaper than into Jackson or Memphis and driving to Starkville or Oxford.

If I were in charge of the MGM Stadium, though, I wouldn't want Ole Miss and MSU there during the same weekend unless they were playing each other. I'd rather have them there separate weeks to each bring a crowd of their own. Because the biggest crowd would obviously be us playing each other, but Biloxi isn't getting that game anytime soon. So it'd be better to get 15k over two weekends for 30k total than 25k for a weekend of us both being there.
