Why did they list our only quality win as being the Ole Miss win while they kept saying that OM had two quality wins against UTEP and K-State? We now have 3 top 50 wins. Ole Miss has one.

that surprises me thatwe have three top 50 wins compared to OM's one. But the thing OM has going for them, that we don't, is that they have good losses, such as Villanova and WVU in pre-conference. We have bad losses in pre-conference such as Rider and WKU.

The selection committee has got to look at who you actually beat. The bottom line with Ole Miss is that they have only beaten one team in the entire RPI top 50. They have beaten none of the top half of the SEC. By the end of the year our only bad losses will probably be WKU and Rider. Alabama and Arkansas will probably continue to climb in the RPI.

Richmond. I say that because of the way we lost it and where they sit in the RPI. Richmond is currently at 27 and we had them beat and totally choked the game away by blowing a 5 point lead in the last couple of minutes with turnovers and missed free throws. If we had won that game it would actually be our best win of the season for NCAA tourney purposes.

I don't think having a "good loss" ever helped a tourney resume, but a bad can kill it.<div>
</div><div>We have no reason not to schedule some more quality OOC opponents, even 2-3 a year. It gives us a chance to get a good win and wouldn't be a bad loss.Another issue we're having is that when the SEC West is down, we don't have many chances for a good win in conference.</div>

We get our opportunity next week with Vandy and Florida coming to Tad Smith. I have no faith in our ability to go 2-0, but that's our chance to add some quality wins. We've still avoided the bad losses to this point though, which means we can get by with fewer quality wins. We need to get both of them next week on our home floor though. If we do that and beat Auburn at home following that, we're 8-5 in SEC play, and we're in good shape going into the final 3. If we split with Vandy and Florida, we pretty much will have to win out going into the SEC tourney.

To this point, the Top 50 teams we've played are KSU (No. 8 RPI on neutral site), Villanova (No. 3 RPI on neutral site), @WVU (No. 5 RPI), @UK (No. 6 RPI), and @UT (No. 22 RPI). We'd probably have more Top 50 wins if some of those games would've been at home against teams ranked in the 30-50 range. That's why we need to get both Vandy and Florida at home. I think we go 1-1 at best though, and I think we finish 8-8, NIT bound. Still, it's mid-February before we are going to have our first shot at a Top 50 team on our home floor. South Carolina and UTEP both have a chance to move up to the Top 50 though, which would help our quality win total. I'm just scared of what Vandy and Florida will do to us, since they're both well coached and fairly disciplined.

ETA: UTEP is actually 54 on RealtimeRPI, but your point still stands.

It just pissed me off that ESPN is so clueless sometimes. (ie overlooking the ODU win and getting the enrollment wrong). We get our big shot at some exposure and this is what happens.

because in Starkville we likely beat Vandy or Florida or both. Heck, we only lost in Nashville by 3 and led Florida in Gainesville at halftime. But instead we get KY at home, which for this year is not likely to matter since whereever you play them you are almost certainly going to lose. Given that, we almost HAVE to knock off UT at home. If we lose to KY and split the @SC/@Aub games but win the rest that would put us at 10-6 and that's about the best I think we do. Given that scenario we still probably need to win 2 in the SEC tourney to guarantee an NCAA bid due to the weak SEC West.
