We knew 3-0 was basically a must for us to have any shot at 6 wins and a Bowl bid. Here we are 3 games in and we’re right where we need to be. Sign us up for 4-1 and a very exciting October!

Northwestern and Temple were cupcake-ish. Virginia Tech, although down so far this season, was legit.
In Northewstern's defence, they might not be a good team but they were able to blow out a cupcake ( UTEP) on their schedule 38-7..

The team is improved and 3-0 is a best case scenario. I’m not sure they have enough on offense once they are into legit conf play. I thought the defense struggled some against VT. The DL didnt get a lot push overall. I think the defense is good not dominant or top level. Need to get to 6 wins which will not be easy.

How many Big Ten wins they get?
might be only The Fighting Illini, if they're lucky
but they did well in their UTEP and Howard doesn't have
Andy around to help, so the Wildcats are an assured winner that game 😁

Just to be clear, Temple and BC were even more cupcake-ish last year (in the way your describing), but none of these teams are remotely in the same cupcake galaxy as Wagner. I think that was the point.

Put in perspective - Wagner is so bad that if we somehow pulled the upset, not one person would be talking about a New Hampshire type let down except maybe Schiano in coach talk. Our 3rd team would not lose to Wagner on a bad day.

However, you can not say they were formidable teams for a hopeful bowl.

I posted it. But Plum’s right. Wagner isn’t a real game.

Temple just blew out an FCS Norfolk team that would probably destroy Wagner too. They would lose to some high schools probably.

The on-field product is finally heading in the right direction. Now Rutgers needs to upgrade facilities and do a better job of getting actual fans in the stands at home games. I'm not talking about giving away tickets to people who don't want them or dumping thousands of tickets on StubHub, I mean actual live human beings cheering at games.

The "sellout" attendance numbers that Rutgers has been releasing to the public are phony and embarrassing. Instead of figuring out ways to manipulate attendance numbers, RU Athletics should be trying to figure out how to get people to come to games.

We were 3-0 the last two seasons. (First time Rutgers to start 3-0 in 3 straight years since 1959-1961) Need to get 3 more!

Didn't include a conference game either time. And I don't recall the margins against P5 opponents being this high. Didn't we beat Temple by 2 last year, and BC by 3 or less? It definitely has a different feel, even though ultimately none of the opponents may turn out too impressively at the end of the season. You play the cards you're dealt. We were dealt a conference opponent and a historically good ACC team along with a G5. We still have an AA program to go.

Didn't say it wasn't a different feel. Was just putting out the fact it hasn't been done since 59-61.

It was a tradition back then that Princeton was the opening game.

They've all been very weak programs so far. The team has not been tested yet.
Are you sure you really mean programs. NWU has been down past few years but have been solid to good for 15 years prior.
VaTech - program???
Temple- they had been higher then us pretty recently

Maybe you just meant current or recent teams.

We did test our selves. Not long ago- we would have been lucky to be 1-2 with these teams- it shows our improvement. The eyeball shows it too.
Does it continue- no idea but we have improved by a lot since Ash Era

Programs or teams the competition so far has been weak. The good news is they beat the weak competition fairly handily instead of by the skin of their teeth, like last year. But these are teams that were bad last year and look bad so far this year.

To compare different sports, I remember very much enjoying the '18-'19 Rutgers basketball season. That season we went 14-17/7-13 so on its surface it was not the kind of season it seems like one should dwell too long upon. But I recall that season seeing the signs of good coaching, an increase in talent level, kids developing, etc. I get a similar feeling watching this football team.

Like everyone I hope we go to a Bowl, heck I hope we beat Michigan this week. But I think I know what I am seeing and it appears this years squad is a "different beast" than anything I've seen in almost a decade. And that portends well not only for this year, but for the future of the football program.

Just my $0.02

Listened to Gregs update on coach Watson, "we hope to get him back" is his medical situation so dire he may not be able to return? Obviously his well being and recovery is the first concern, hopefully he is in recovery mode and progressing in a positive fashion, but Greg sounded different and much more cautious that when he first commented on coaches medical situation

4-1? 4-1?

Either we go 12-0, win the playoffs and championship and then beat the winner of the superbowl, or we suck.
