Well Fitz knows him really well and obviously is impressed by him. I met Coach O’Neil once (briefly). Seemed like a pretty articulate guy. Perhaps his system is a bit too complex for this group of players.
It apparently was a bit too complex for all his groups of players.

But not too complex for most offensive coordinators to solve.

According to my friend university officials are fully in the corner of Pat Fitzgerald. He’s doing a great job fundraising for Northwestern as the new stadium project is their main focus.

I asked about declining season ticket sales and fan support and he said the attendance has been as expected despite the poor on-field performance. The other things you mention (merchandising/advertising) are inconsequential. Northwestern is making plenty of $$ off the Big Ten TV deal with more to come.

I spoke to my friend who worked with President Schill and he confirmed he’s not a big sports guy, and doubts he even attended a Ducks game during his time there.

Long story short. Pat Fitzgerald is king right now. As long as the Big Ten and donor checks continue clear the on-field performance doesn’t really matter. Believe me he spends a lot of time with the Ryan’s and big donors who truly matter.

As I mentioned I do believe Fitz cares about this program and wants to get it turned around. If he does turn it around it will be with the support of the Jim O’Neil and Mike Bajakian.
I met President Schill on the sidelines of the SIU game. Makes me wonder what else should be trusted from this thread.

To be fair Fitz in his heart believes Jim O’Neil can coach defense.
To be fair? I guess these *** kickings feel much better with a head set on. Bro, first thing I read your posts with the voice of a mafia informant.

Secondly, there is so much you've said that's worth dissecting. The comments about the checks clearing nobody cares? You think NU is some back alley university getting their hustle on? PF pals around with donors? I've seen PF at multiple social/charity events and he is a meat-head. He isn't fooling billionaires indefinitely.

"Set-up to fail during recruiting cycles" By who? This makes ZERO sense. Like Iowa is setting up NU to lose? In 2021 everyone knew they didn't have a QB or LBs. Especially PF. This whole thread is just dumb and yes I fed the troll. But most of us here just can't entertain the raw stupidity we see in this program much less those who (even in jest) defend it.

I fed the troll, also, I admit it. It was fun.

I don't know how any coach can say "things looked really good in practice" when your team doesn't practice against your opponents.

There has been a size / speed problem in our games. We are at a physical disadvantage. You can't see that in practice.
Really? Southern Illinois and Miami had a physical advantage over NU? Duke too? Come on now.
