is that Croom was hired for an admin position at Bama. That would suck bad because that could easily take Russell away from us.

I would hate to loose Russell but I would rather loose Russell then to have Croom around any day. There will plenty of other QB to come along. I also want to add that I hope our coaching search don't center around that guy either. Our program is bigger than one recruit that might or might not pan out.

Assuming Croom was in a position to contact recruits. He's a great PR guy and has no doubt made connections in Mississippi over the past 5 years.

I can't believe Croom would take it though after the way Bama did him...unless he has an axe to grind with us.

That would explain in Croom's interview, the sudden departure to the number of seniors Alabama has and Nick Saban's philosophies.

it makes a lot of sense for them to hire him as long as he has nothing to do with the football team. he could just sit back and be good PR for them by doing nothing...similar to what he did here.</p>

And even though Bama gave him the shaft, you could tell that he still loved them. I could definately see him over there.

that he loves to party with the pretty coeds. Sounds like quality SEC QB material - seriously.

game, Jim Ellis asked him about his "feelings" for Alabama now that he had been the State coach for five years. He more or less hedged and talked about how he had a great career there and how wonderful and great their tradition was and is, practically ad nauseum. I contrast that with the way JWS answered that same question posed by Jim years ago when he was ready to kick some Alabama ***. Jackie simply responed something to the effect that "Yeah, I played there but that was a long time ago." Gotta' give it to the Kang..when he was wanting to kick some ***, he was ready to do it..in his prime anyway. That's why I say Croom just didn't "get it" and he never will. And to think that he was paid the amount of money that he was paid almost makes me physically ill.

..goes from 2007 COTY & Liberty bowl trophy to a train wreck season in 2008 to getting fired by a young whipper snapper who doesn't suffer 10 year rebuilding projects to taking a non-coaching job @ his alma mater (which reeks of a pity hire).

Croom's current path is pretty depressing.

I don't know why any recruit would be attracted to such gloom.

Thanks though. Some idiot said that Saban hired him as their Running backs coach. I said no, it was a football administration position.

putting in Saban assistant hours?

If they hire him, they better put him as far away from the field as they can get him.

That is exactly right. The funny thing about it is if crooms were still here Russell may have wound up at Bama anyway.

Russell has a great deal of potential and I couldn't figure out why he would have wanted to come here with McCroomvey here anyway. The push from Saban to get Russell was heating up already. I am not pretending to know what is going through Russell's mind, but if I were in his shoes I know where I would go if its Croom/ State or Saban/ Bama even considering my love for State.

Crooms being gone and we make a good hire could also potentially keep Russell here even if crooms gets a job at Bama.

Basically all I am saying is nothing more than the obvious and that is that Russell has the potential to be a very good college quarterback and he has to make a decision that is best for him. And the croom coast scheme may not have been it so our hire becomes very important to him.

And I am from the camp of our hire needs to be the best hire for MSU, and not the best hire to get a certain recruit to campus; although it worked out pretty well for Ole Miss, Cutcliffe. But there are no more Mannings left. Sorry for the length.

in 5 years than he would have ever dreamed. I've got no problem with his love for his alma mater but hating us would be silly and childish. We gave him a chance that nobody else gave him.

Croom is a great coach and had a great staff assembled here at State. He just walked into a horrible horrible situation. With the resume he has.. he should have no trouble NO trouble getting another head coaching job.

I told my Auburn neighbor that they should hire Croom so he could build their program the "right way". How long do you think the Tigers would tolerate him recalling the glory years at Bama? That would be just too funny!
