With the backs we have committed, it looks like we have solved our speed problem at the running back/slot position. But, for next year, who is going to be able to fill Dixon's short yardage role? I like having a big back to pound on teams when you get ahead. We have Connor who was redshirted but who knows how effective he will be. Obviously, we need Matthew Wells to commit and be the next Dixon. Then again, Cameron Newton could be our short yardage back next year like Tebow. If that commitment happens, I won't be concerned about short yardage situations. Thoughts?

after seeing Wells' highlights, I thought he looked like a good running back, but a STUD at safety.

Maybe in a spring game, or more if it works, I'd like to see a goal line wishbone play run with all OL or DL people in the backfield (except for the QB).

Might Conner grow into a Marcus Green type body?
When we recruited Green he was supposed to be a RB, he was 6'2" 215 or so coming out of hs.
Conner's got some height too, built more like a WR. You don't see that many RB's that are tall and lanky</p>

I've seen Ballard play a few times with MGCC and he is a tough runner with good speed. He isn't quite the beast Dixon is, but he can run between the tackles. I've also seen the PRCC RB play a few times and he definitely isn't a between the tackles guy. However, he is one of the fastest players I have ever watched in person. Unreal speed. Unfortunately, he will ever make it to MSU due to academic issues.
