Slauter .60

Hann .28

This is still early as we will have to see probably twice as many games to see about what the final numbers should look like. For example I don't believe Frost will keep up a .84 per 4 PA clip the whole season as he only has 24 AB's right now, but he's definitely improved this year. He should be our starting 2B at this point. Assuming Rea is out this weekend I think it should look something like

Frazier SS
Henderson LF
Detz 1B/3B
Renfroe RF
Norris 3B/1B
Slauter C
Bradford CF
Flair/Porter DH
Frost 2B

We REALLY need Rea's bat in there. Another Cohen mystery is the lack of DH opportunities for Flair so far this year. Porter needs to start producing. Just some thoughts

We are doing better on stealing bases as well...28 so far (only 45 all last year).

The most important part is not getting caught nearly as much. We have a 78% success rate this year, as opposed to 64% last. If we'd stop going for 3rd base so unnecessarily much it would be even higher.

I can't speak for every time this year we've been thrown out at third, but I'm pretty sure Tuesday night was a blown hit and run. I forgot who was at the plate, but a hard swinging third strike and a baserunner moving on one out... Sounds more like that was the case. If so, that's on the hitter moreso than the baserunner.

If it was that was a dumb call. Why HaR with a runner on 2nd, especially Renfroe.

You are right because every call you would make would be a smart call, backed by statistics, and work every time.

If by work you mean not getting thrown out at 3rd yes I would never get thrown out at 3rd there. Give me a reason to hit and run with a fast runner on 2nd.

Also. Tuesday it wasn't a hit and run, Norris had a 3-2 count and it was a double steal. Still a dumb call lookin at risk-reward.

Yeah, there have been a few hit and run plays that left the runner high and dry. There have also been several times where the ball has gotten away from the catcher, and there was indecision by the runners that got them thrown out. As far as straight up steal attempts, we have a very good success rate.

We've got to be smarter on the bases from now on. Part of it has been inexperience of Mingione coaching 3rd, and part was the players being overly aggressive. That's really been the only knock on Henderson is his ability to get himself thrown out on the bases.
