Rush Limbaugh Owner -- Thoughts?

It seems this "Rush to the Rams" story is getting much bigger. Should Limbaugh, who has made (makes) controversial statements, be allowed to own a NFL team? Or is the fallout not worth the risk? I personally find that excluding him because of the "fraternity of coaches" garbage is just laughable. I think he would be a huge story all the time and would enhance the profile of St. Louis because like him or not, the guy must know business and how to sell an idea.

But now, players are starting to come out and say they will not play for him yada, yada, yada... That has to be the biggest double standard ever. No one complained and raised a stink when they played with Leonard Little (who committed a major CRIME, killed a person, and continued playing). So it is worse to partner with Limbaugh than a murderer? Please...that is ridiculous. I don't agree with a lot of what Limbaugh says/does, but I have worked for many bosses who did things I totally abhorred and would not do but that didnt mean I wouldn't go, do my job, and go home.

Where was the outrage when Robert Johnson became the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats....which also has Nelly as a co-owner. Yes, Robert Johnson who started the TV network BET with an absolutely racist title. Does it mean he is racist? no, but it is still a racist title (Black Entertainment Television). And Nelly? Where was that outrage? Has a song entitled "Tip-Drill" which implies an ugly woman who is good only for sex, and in his video he is seen swiping a credit card up a womans backside crack. Where was the outrage Al Sharpton? A man who consistently puts out lyrics degrading women, total misogynist, constant use of the "N" word publically, and raps glowingly of smoking dope? Yes, that is what we need as an owner in America Al Sharpton, that is more like it.

I hope Rush the best, and I believe that regardless of his personal views, if you made your fortune legally, can competently obey rules, and have lived the American Dream, personal opinions should not matter if you are paying the bills!

when it comes to liberals versus conservatives.

**** on Bush all you want, but when you point out the failings of Obama, you are a racist... Also, libs have the thinnest skin - that's why they are called bedwetters.

Rush is smart, but says controversial things (99% true - and when he uncovers that he stated an untruth, he will clarify). I hope he gets the Rams. His management team would turn that program around. And with the number of NFL players who get cut every year, they will play for the Rams... This is a joke and the 'protesters' are just wetting the bed.

I can tell you one thing, if Rush owns the Ram, Croom's *** would have to produce or he would be gone.

Rush, just like the NFL players, is an entertainer. He has stayed on top and made millions over the years by informing, educating and entertaining. Love him or hate him, he had an idea and a medium and made money with it. If he buys the Rams, he will make sure it is ran well and puts a good product on the field.

When we hired Croom, we had players say on camera when interviewed by the TV stations "We are excited to have a coach that is the same color as us." Can you imagine if Addison Lawrence, Zach Smith, JC Brignone, or another white player said that when Croom was replaced by Mullen?

if it may cost the league money in the long run. And he is pretty divisive. They like owners who keep out of politics for the most part. Ever hear Jerry Jones or even dumb *** Al Davis weigh in on politics? It's about nothing but money. They only do any PC stuff because they think it means more money in the long run.

On a serious note. The statements that they are talking about have not been proven. There was one about slavery being a good thing and something else. He would not be the sole owner. Even $900 billion is a big bite for El Rushbo. If some players do not want to play for a team that he owns part of 17 them. I am sick and tired of this BS. I know this tread will be locked soon but I am tired of people putting Mississippi down. The Gov of Michigan said that she did not want Michigan to turn into Mississippi. Is that racist because our black population per capita is larger than any other state. We are doing much better than they are by the way. Only liberals are allowed to put down Mississippi because they know that they will never get our vote.

If the Rams and Rush Limbaugh offered say Chad Johnson- I refuse to call him by his ridiculous last name that he came up with- and offered to make him the top paid WR in the NFL, do you think he would take it, or would he refuse it because of Rush?

I know personally, if someone was a raging Liberal, but offered me enough money to the point where I couldn't pass it up, I wouldn't give it a second thought. And I would be stupid to pass it up based on politics.

And the players would be stupid to not play for the Rams because of politics to, if that's what they are solely basing their decision off of.

is that those quotes attributed to Rush are either complete fabrications or are taken out of context. Most of the time when he says crazy stuff, he's talking about what liberals are thinking, not what he's thinking. He said today that the slavery quote is completely made up and he's thinking about suing. People think what they want to think about him, and those whose minds are made up will never be convinced otherwise, and 99% of those who think he is racist have never once listened to him. Hell, his right-hand man/call screener/producer is black. Burwell's column was just his way of making sure everyone reading the P-D knows he's black and liberal.

Along the same lines of poor recordkeeping - I have personally visited three different sites along the MS river on HWY 1 that claim to be where Desoto discovered the Mississippi River. Obviously he kept rediscovering it.</p>*edited - at least i'm not a geography major

Or you can go and look at a very similar quote from Isiah Thomas about Larry Bird, and see that it didn't slow him down in reaching leadership positions in the NBA.

reference is about a rail crossing where W.C. Handy discovered the blues, not about where Robert Johnson (or Tommy Johnson for that matter ) sold his soul to the devil, the latter because he wasn't usin' it.

Rush is not a racist, no matter how badly some people want him to be. He has a healthy admiration and respect for anyone who is excellent in his profession, no matter his skin color or even his politics.

The bigger question players and fans should ask is- will he bring a winner to St. Louis? If he winds up trying to buy a team like Dan Snyder, trying to overcontrol a team like Jerry Jones or is simply senile like Al Davis, then he'll simply have a loser. However, if he works to build a system like what New England, Pittsburgh, or maybe even a Denver, then playahs won't give a **** about his politics and will want to play for him.

Rush is a fan of the Steelers, which is owned by Dan Rooney, a HUGE flaming liberal. Rooney was a vocal advocate of Obama and is now the Ambassador to Ireland. Nobody seemed to make a big deal about Rooney, not even Rush.

...should bar Rush Limbaugh, or anyone else, from ownership of an NFL Franchise. I think it is immaterial. If Rush were a racist, as some people think, then his team would gradually grow more "white" over time. The woman who was the former owner of the Cincinnati Reds was very clearly racist, or at least used racist words. No one ever did anything about her, other than a little slap on the wrists now and then. It is a free country, and people can believe what they want to believe. It is also a free country as far as free agents are concerned and if they don't like their owners' politics, let them go where they do.

Most who cant stand him have never listened to him. Once you listen to him you realize that he is right on. They have not proven the racist comments but if you were on the radio without a script for 21 years 15 hrs a week they are going to find something you said spin it and turn it against you.

I've listened to him many times. Was a regular listener years ago. To me, he is a hate monger. Don't get me wrong.....he isn't the only one.

I consider myself fairly moderate. I don't agree with everything he says. I think he's a crazy *******. However, since assclowns like Nancy Pelosi and Al Franken are now in charge of our government, America needs ******** like Rush to anger the blood.

This may be the longest political thread to ever grace The Pack. The General must be out of town...
