Why do you, as a fan, deserve success?
This isn't some State/Ole Miss flame. Far from it. I've heard Ole Miss people make the same dumbass comments about football and baseball before
regarding Omaha or the Sugar Bowl.
Seriously. Is there such a thing as an undeserving fan base?
By what rationale are you as a fan more deserving than an equally committed Auburn fan? Arkansas fan? Baylor fan?
I think fans that talk about deserving success are narcissistic idiots who think that the success or failure of their respective teams is somehow reflected
back onto them personally. Buying a hat or a shirt or donating half a million bucks doesn't mean you deserve a damn thing.
Of course Ole Miss. OK that was obviously my jackass answer. You set yourself up with that and I'm just messing with you. I don't want to start a 12 page thread pissing contest either.
Now the rational answer- I don't think we necessarily "deserve" National Titles, wins or whatever. I don't think that's what coach is saying, either. Those are earned through hard work, good recruiting, some luck, etc. But I do think that we deserve the the very best from our coaches and players to try to win every game. You may not like MSU, but I don't think anyone that's rational from any school can say that we got the very best effort from Polk to win, or from Polk's team. Croom may have given his best personal effort, and may have simply been over his head, or just plain lazy. Probably a combination of both. Regardless, that's unacceptable at an SEC school.
I do hope that the end product of Cohen's work is a NC. There's no guarantee to that, and I understand that, but at the same time, there is absolutely no reason to not try your very best to win it at MSU. Especially when you have facilities, an AD that is supportive, a fanbase that is supportive, and you're in a fairly good recruiting area.
And one thing I can say about this team from having watched them play- they don't have the most talent, or win every game, but not once have they given me any reason to question their effort this year so far. And I do appreciate that, whether I deserve it or not.
