In what is sure to be a shock to most of SWVA, The Rye Cove Eagles are 5-0 after their thrashing of the Castlewood Blue Devils last night in Castlewood. Under first year coach Gary Collier, the Eagles are much improved, having won more games this season than the past 4 combined, and have a higher player turnout than in MANY years past. Early on in this one it didn't look the best for Rye Cove as Castlewood scored right out of the gates to take a 7-0 lead. However, Rye Cove scored 42 unanswered points to maintain their undefeated record. On defense Rye Cove appeared beyond prepared racking up FIVE interceptions. Rye Cove held Castlewood to just 74 yards rushing, but gave up 128 yards through the air. Offensively The Cove looked just as good, running at will, with Payton Darnell and Landon Lane leading the way. Darnell had 101 yards while Lane had 68. The biggest play of the night came courtesy of Logan Barnette with a 58 yard touchdown scamper. The constant changeup of offensive schemes from play to play seemed to have Castlewood on their heels and unsure of what to do defensively. Rye Cove will travel to face 2A Lee High in Jonesville next Friday to try to extend their streak.
