At this point I guess you take what you can get. I hate that my Sarr dream is ending though.
Yeah, same here. Sarr or Haggerty would have REALLY put a hitch in my giddyup. But if I’m being honest with myself, they never really seemed like realistic options. Of all the names we’ve heard in the last week or so though, Griffin is probably the most exciting option out there we might actually be able to afford.

I don't think he would be the starter. Seems to me it would be JJ or CC.
He started on a final four team and shot good his sophomore year. If you got him, you have true competition for starting job at SG. Pope is taking us old school in more ways that one —- I think it would be a good thing. I still favor CC to become starter due to his defense

If he comes here, will be great get for us

Should be a better shooter than Kansas version, can play defense, have good athleticism, can drive to the basket.

Perfect player for us.

Also, will not be that expensive.
It does seem strange though that UK was going to pay Lamar close to 2 million. Why not use that on a bigger name?

Is he my first, second or third choice? No.
Can I squint hard enough and see it with him? Yes.

Starter on a final 4 team. Wing shooter with good numbers a year ago. Solid defender.
I like the solid defender part the best. I think his shooting touch will come back in an offense designed for shooters.

KU was a mess all season. Not holding that against him.

I like this add, I've said it a few times on here already.

Guy has been there and done that
- Played a full SEC schedule and averaged double figures and 40% from 3
- Started in the Final Four
- Played at a Blue Blood and understands the expectations and pressure already
- Played in big games and events like the Champions Classic, vs. Duke, etc.

This is a really experienced shooter who was put in the wrong situation at Kansas. Has a chance to bounce back in a big way.

My question is- what is he like on the defensive side of the ball?

Had the worst defensive rating out of anyone on Kansas that played more than 5 games but has a pretty decent defensive box plus minus. He doesn’t get steals and isn’t going to lock anyone down. Brandon Ramsey suggested he is decent defensively.

JJ is not starting.
PG- Lowe
2G - Oweh
SF / Wing - Williams
JJ will not start over Williams or Oweh. Oweh played the 2 last year and will do so this year, Williams is the perfect SF.

IMO as of today:
PG - Lowe / JJ
2G - Oweh / Chandler / Perry
SF - Williams / Dioubate / Noah
PF - Dioubate / Jelavic
C- JQ (if ready) if not, Garrison / Moreno

This would be a great add….hard to find shooters who play good D and have legit size….plus I trust the coaching staff. Mbako visited as a back up plan…IF things heat up with Sarr or a bigger name in the next 48 hours the staff has shown they won’t accept commitments if they need to wait on somebody else. But Bama level Griffin is an add every day.

UPDATE: the visit is Tuesday which screams the staff is trying to see about ALL options to make the best decision.
UPDATE: or it could be that's the first day he can make it to a visit.

I think the bigger names were wanting more.

I saw where it was rumored Sarr wanted 2.5.

I would think Jackson and Haggerty would be worth as much or more than Sarr.

Also, some of these guys already had an idea where they were going before even entering the portal. It sounds like Jackson has been St. John’s to lose all along.

You think Kam is the starting small forward? I just don't see that.

Meh...this dude was horrendous for KU last year. There are WAY better options out there. I will take him and he can probably help but I will hope for someone a little more impactful.

Griffin moves the needle for me; he was a terrific player at Alabama.

45.4% FG
74/189 for 39.2% on 3s
81% FT

In the NCAA tournament; Griffin went for 9, 13, 19, 13 and 8.
Was 13/27 from 3 in the tourney.

Had 14 double figure games in 2023-24.

It’s kind of fascinating that Pope got almost all double digit scorers last year from the portal and may get all single digit scorers in the portal this year other than Lowe. More higher level guys as well.

Dioubate - 7.2
Williams - 9.3
Quaintance - 9.4
Griffin was 6.3

Seems like the bigger names are demanding much bigger NIL deals.
I totally get why Pope isn't willing to pay a Wilkerson 3 million. If he did that, we would probably see a very upset apple cart. We might lose dome very key returning players.
There are key guys flying the coops at Alabama and Auburn right now, we don't need that smoke over here.

Why did he leave Bama? His highlight reel looks good, for a highlight reel. My concern would be can he get along. Kansas team last year rumored to have a lot of turmoil and they usually aren’t great people to start with. That would be my biggest concern. If Pope signs him then ok.

I don’t worry about character concerns with anyone Pope signs. Did you watch the video talking about everything the players have to learn to say in their first practices? Even if you have an ego, Pope will work that out. He won’t take someone he can’t mold

The entite team was trash. Seemed like they were just broken and not on the same page. We've seen it here a few times, then, those players that looked average, or worse, went on to play great at the next level.
Griffin showed out when he was at Bama, because the system was a good fit and the team played well together.
He's definitely not my first choice, but he is a power 5 that has proven he can do the job.

It is the EXACT position he played last year. Was a freshman last year. Will make a huge jump this year in a better system and year maturity. Shot 42% from 3, 5 boards a game, 1.5 steals and over 1 block per game. He is a 2 way player something this team didn't have last year.

An athletic 3& D player…he’s prolly the most I’m excited about of the transfers.
