You know, nobody has actually said, I don't think, that MSU is under investigation. All that has been said is that the NCAA is investigating some recruiting irregularities involving at least one player on MSU's roster. So this may not even involve the university itself.

On the other hand, if this didn't involve Mirando's resignation, why doesn't he just come out and say this had nothing to do with his resignation?

I'm sure there's legal reasons as well. I know that in most cases nowadays with business, you can only confirm that that person worked for the company and the dates they worked there. Providing any additional information requires the person to sign a form granting you permission to do so.

All I know is that Mirando made sure to emphasize that his resignation has nothing to do with any legal issue. I take that to mean that he and the school realized the peculiar timing of it would lead people to think he was being booted out due to NCAA issues, so he tried to clarify that it was for personal reasons.

Right now I'm going to trust what I'm hearing from MSU people, not the sensationalist media. And if MSU people are right, then we have little to worry about.

There is nothing illegal about violating NCAA sanctions (well, most of them, but sometimes people violate both the law and the NCAA rules). I actually thought about this when I first read about Mirando's resignation. They emphasized there were not "legal issues", which means he wasn't having sex with underaged girls or anything, but it still could have been something to do with the NCAA investigation.

I agree with you on that, but I felt the term was general enough that he could have been referring to NCAA issues as well. I don't know, of course. Just an opinion.
