I don't think this is Sexton playing the game. Saban doesn't need to manufacture leverage to get more $ out of Alabama. If he walked in tomorrow and said 'pay me $10Million a year or I'll retire', they would have to pony up.

Mack Brown has $43M left on his contract, but his buyout is only $3.5M (max). Could go down to 2.75M if he is fired after Jan 1. Texas needs to **** or get off the pot.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, but no matter how this ends up, it's bad for us. Why? Because whatever happens with Saban's salary, it will be something ridiculous like 10-20 million. The rest of the schools in our conference are going to want to keep up with that, and many of the schools can afford to pay over 5, even if that's closer to the ceiling right now. We can't afford that.

Why can't we afford that? We should offer Saban $12M.

What is our athletic budget?

Ha. If Saban is under pressure at AL, just wait until he gets to UT. They will expect a NC pronto. I say bs to this article.

To me, hiring Saban and his staff is the soundest investment you can make in collegiate athletics. I'm surprised UT is the only big money school in the conversation.

If he does go to Texas, I'm sure he will get them a NC very shortly. I hope he does go, because that is our only already slim hopes of ever getting back to Atlanta.

If there is one guy out there who is not worried about pressure, it’s Saban. I’m not buying that load of crap.

Agreed. I am always amazed at the people who say things like, "No coach is worth $6 Million per year!" I would bet my house that the additional revenue that Alabama has generated since they hired Saban, easily doubles (and probably triples or quadruples) the amount that they have invested in his salary. It would not surprise me at all if they could financially justify paying him a salary of $12 or $15 Million per year.

Alabama, Texas, Michigan...they can afford to pay their coaches that. We can't. I'm not saying they aren't worth it or justified in paying that much, I'm simply saying we can't step up and pay that amount.

Some of you folks don't keep up. His wife was quoted a couple of years ago talking about the pressure at alabama and Saban himself said that winning games at alabama isn't very much fun because it is so expected. Also, ESPN was reporting this late last night.

Alabama's president was quoted last week saying that Nick Saban is the best investment the University of Alabama has ever made.

Two sure signals a coach is gone (1) a statement like Saban just released by the coach himself...he`ll leave (2) the AD give the coach a vote of confidence when things are not going well...he`ll be fired

There is no more pressure to win a NC than at Bama. It would be much easier to get to the NC game at UT than at Bama.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if he leaves, but he'll say he's not up until the day he leaves. He lied about going to Alabama when he left the Dolphins; and if I recall correctly, he told LSU fans he wasn't leaving up until he left for the Dolphins. Coach speak or lying .... ?
