Kirn didn't have it today. And he was out of gas. Coach Sabins was definitely making these pitching decisions based upon the game tomorrow. Didn't want to burn or waste someone today and not have them available tomorrow. But after seeing how our offensive scored 9 runs, hindsight is always 20/20. Hopefully we can come out swinging tomorrow and our pitchers throw it over that white irregular pentagon more than they did today. The freebies is what really did us in today. Not sure I share or agree with his opinion.
I understand the thought of Kirn not having it. What I don't agree with is who he brought in at the time and the little experience they had.Kirn didn't have it today. And he was out of gas. I don't disagree. What I was saying was that perhaps coach thought that the offense wasn't going to score much against LSU top guy who has been dominate this year, and wasn't willing to lose his best bullpen arms for game #2 in a game that he thought was about to get out of hand. But what happened was that the offense was up for the challenge, and scored 9 runs, but our pitching did what they have done much of the later part of the year........not throwing strikes.I understand the thought of Kirn not having it. What I don't agree with is who he brought in at the time and the little experience they had.
The walks, hit batters and errors gave free baserunners and LSU took full advantage.

Since going to the super regionals (2003), the team that wins the first game has won the series 80% of the time. However, this year may be different. So far FSU, Miami, and Arizona won game #2 in their series after dropping game #1. Then you have WVU, UTSA, Tennessee, and Murray State going for their first win today. Only Coastal Carolina has already advanced (2-0 over Auburn). When you are the outmatched team, how much less likely are you to win a series down 0-1 vs up 0-1? I haven't looked at previous underdog matchups in the super regionals to see, but it just feels like dropping the first game drastically drops your odds of winning if you are the underdog team.
