I also seem to remember a fair amount of time before the next play, as in the replay official had plenty of time to see if it was worth a closer look.

i know the reciever was beyond the line, and thought part of the rule was that the ball had to make it back to atleast the line of scrimmage. Mute point though, that one play wouldn't have changed anything. Bama had us figured out from the start and just exposed us at will.

Don't think it has to.

But I thought the refs were mighty generous in determining he had a receiver in the area.

That was an absolutely atrocious call. I replayed it for my wife about five times to demonstrate what home-cookin' looks like. (She went to OM, however, and was unimpressed.) My six-year-old thought it was pretty bad, though.

I hadn't realized that he was in the end zone when he threw it because the TV camera was behind his back. One of the refs tossed the flag, but I thought it was going to be for intentional grounding--until they waved it off.

Who cares. We'd still be 7-3*.

*One of the losses was to a team that cheated and utilized an ineligible player who is an academic cheat, steals laptops and has a pimp for a father/agent.
