Last month Roman Harper, Will Smith and Vilma and today Lance Moore. Looks like Sproles &/or PT will be next.

Damn.

Just saw on twitter Sproles is gone. Couldn't happen to a better team. **

That doesn't really explain blowing it up this year.

And probably pissed him off By franchising him as a TE, when he deserves WR money. They could have done it as an WR.

Nope. He's gone per the mothership. This is f'n ridiculous. I could see the other cuts but why sproles? He's the one rb I didn't want to see cut just because he's not just a rb. He excels in all phases of the offense. Jesus tap dancing Christ...

I love Sproles, probably been my favorite Saint outside of Brees for the past 3 years. DS struggled staying healthy as of late, seem to stay nicked up all year. Think he lost a step, he struggled in the return game, kick off and punt returns that is. Where we'll miss him is the screen game and Drews bail out option. Hoping we can sign a younger scat back and we desperately need an outside speedster at WR, that can stretch the D, to loosen coverage on Graham and Colston.

I'm a fan of every move we've made this off-season so far except franchising Jimmy Graham instead of signing. In reality, that wasn't going to happen though. He wants top WR money, so we're giving him about as much this season as we would on a contract while we argue his worth.

I would have liked to keep Sproles for one more season but I understand the cut. He's lost a step and rarely finishes a season. We've got a young guy with a lot of the same abilities... Why not save $3m+? Over the last 2 seasons we've won most of our games through a bruising running game, and with Brees getting older I see us relying on that now more than screens.

It's not just Jimmy though, it's Brees' contract more than anything. And the fact that we need to sign several FA on D, Hakeem Nicks who is interested in coming to NOLA for a 1-2 year contract, and make a run for a KR/PR. Wouldn't call it blowing a roster up... Roman and Smith are old and had virtually lost their jobs and Vilma has played something like 3 games for the Saints in 2 years. When 3 players like that make as much money as they do and don't contribute as much as their backups, it's time to go.

It makes no sense to pay a rb anything in this league.

And like someone said, brees is the real issue. He had a choice to be on a legit contender or own jimmy johns franchises. He chose the latter

Saints aren't a real contender? I said that about Brees because I want to defunct all this "it's Jimmy's fault" talk. One of the consequences of having an elite (elite = top 3) QB who makes elite QB money is you can't afford to have veterans who don't play or redundancies at skill positions. Ask Champ Bailey.

Saints have the best offense in the NFL (stats would reflect this if they were playing the Broncos' schedule), but we're so bad on D. Looks like they're fixing things after sitting on their *** since '09.

Edited because I just woke up.

If the saints had been able to protect brees they would t have lost senseless games to the panthers or rams which would have given them a bye and one playoff home game. Just watching down the stretch, no, i never felt they were a legit contender last year.

The Saints are a contender every year and have been since Brees arrived in NOLA. They were one of the last 2 undefeated teams this past season, and I agree... They're a few players away from being as good or better than the '09 team. Mainly linemen and defensive players. But if you go back and watch the season we won the SB you'll see how much Pierre Thomas' blocking out of the backfield had to do with our success. He's 5 years older now and we're trying to pump some blood into things. Don't try to make this something it's not. It's not blowing up the roster... But my whole point in saying all of this is these are all players teams would love to have around if they had the luxury of not having a $20m/yr player.

I'd rather have Brees and Graham than a handful of above average backups.

Lance Moore is the biggest loss, but there are a lot of rumors of us landing Nicks. That's an upgrade.

The Saints were the only team in the NFL to finish TOP 5 in both offense and defense. Definitely a contender. Defense was as good as "09" or even better this year. The only difference, which was a big difference was scoring D that the "09" team had.
