While this Salem offense has good offensive weapons the defense still is flat. To give up 40 points to a team that has not won a game this season is atrocious. The defense has got to get a lot better by playoff time. Can’t keep relying on the offense to save them in these games.

If the defense gets a lot better by playoff time there is enough talent offensively for this team to still make a run in the playoffs. But that is IF this defense improves
If this keeps up they should have a new one next year
It does seem like the team does a good job adjusting in the second half on the defensive side of the ball, but they need to put it all together for full games

They will not make any changes. This is not a program that makes rash decisions because of one season.
I think people are delusional if they think this defense is going to get better by playoff time. They are getting worse, if that's even possible.
You’re right they probably won’t and they are young but every team is young every couple years. 181 points through 7 games for a Salem defense is a concern regardless of age.
Non factor in playoffs. 1 and done . If they can outscore team in first round then 2 and done.
Considering the losses from graduation , 8-2 regular season, playoff appearance--not a bad year.
However, because of the defensive play, Salem is vulnerable against Christiansburg, Blacksburg, and Cave Spring
Nobody left on the schedule has any ability to stop that offense. Be a bit realistic, folks.
I can't believe people watched that game last night and got nervous, honestly. Yes, awful D but Pulaski only stopped them because of one bad, brief series. I said vulnerable. Normally those teams would have no chance. But this team is vulnerable because a bad offensive night (turnovers, penalties) and the unthinkable is possible.
There was a positive to last night, some business was donating $100 to charity for every 1st down (in the game or that Salem made, I forget) and there were a looooooot of 1st downs in that game. If it was combined 1st downs there could have been every bit of 30 of them.
How about you sit on the bank and watch the team play without bashing them. We should still support them even they are not as good as past yrs. I'm backing them if they give up 300 points. Other teams have their own struggles as well. On to the next play and the next game.
Some have become spoiled with yesterday's success. This is Salem's current team. 8-2 or first round exit changes nothing about how I feel about this team and future teams.

Shabutie posted that this is the worst Salem defense in his lifetime. Shabutie is no spring chicken.
I thought this board was used for honest assessments and not a cheerleading session.
You can be both a huge supporter of the team and at the same time make honest observations.
So how about you take your cheerleader outfit off and have a real conversation with adults who love high school football , support their team, but are honest about what they see.
You've been on here too long to say this, though. Only fans I've ever seen actually do this are Salem and GW fans. I think Amherst had a guy who used to just be absolutely blunt about the team, too. Everyone else is pure sunshine or just sunshine getting pushed through semi-closed blinds.
Your too old to be making personal attacks about cheerleading uniforms. Since you want to be honest. I'm just tired of all the complaining. You would think grown men would not be so critical of 15-18 year old kids. Schools lose players to graduation every yr. Every week it's something about the defense and never giving the other team credit for their preparation and play calling. We get it, the defense is not going to hold anyone under 21. Nothing is going to change. So let's just move on.

you are correct some ppl just wont see the truth sitting right in front of them. i used to make comments about louisa that were 100 percent objective and get smashed for it. THEY WERE THE TRUTH. when you cant handle the truth its time to move on to something else.
I have no problem with someone bringing it up. The problem is it's beating a dead horse at this point. Maybe just maybe we can give credit to the other teams.

Salem fans have seen good defense for decades. Why should we lie about what we have seen lately? Why not say the truth and hope for improvement? This avoiding the truth so we all can "feel better" is for the birds. Toughen up buttercup

id like to say ill take a less than salem team over any other team all day long. they get it done
