Salem vs Maury Scrimmage

My checklist from the scrimmage... {unofficially the score was something like 21-0 or 28-0 in Maury's favor, but Salem did move the ball well and got in the red zone at least once with another trip right around that area}...
Maury Pluses:
* Big play ability still exists even with new QB
* RB TayShawn Branche looks due for a MONSTER year
* Bend, but not break type of defense
* Not as physically imposing, yet love what LB Ike Simmons (Pitt commit) in the middle on defense + Matt Williams at corner bring
Salem Pluses
* Methodical type of offense that gets behind those 'mules' on the o-line and a consistent ground game
* Firm hitting, even though Maury showed elusiveness to slip out of a few tackles... these guys lay the lumber
* New QB Tanner Overstreet can scoot out of the pocket and run the offense nicely
* Back end of the defense must guard against teams trying to beat them over the top through the pass game

Sounds like the defense still needs work. I hope they gell and have a better overall season than last year. The offensive line should be consistent. I like what Salem has coming back as far as skill players. Biggest question mark for me is the defense. I’m hoping they give up less points than last year. They played better late in the year and in the playoffs but I just want to see a little more consistency.
Gotta love the Salem expectations. Hoping they have a better overall season after going 10-3 with a narrow defeat in the region championship last year. Salem will be young again so expect some "gel" issues early on.
In that context I specifically meant I hope the defense has a better season then last year
I heard the Spartan JV absoulutly **** ROCKED the Aleghany JV Last week. Expectatations are high in the Emerald City!
I'm sure JV will be good as usual, but I'm not sure rocking Alleghany in a scrimmage is much to get excited about. That result was hopefully the expected outcome. Not to be dismissive but, I think if they didn't manhandle Alleghany that would have been more of a story.
