I'll remove my participation from this board until SEC Basketball heats up. I can't handle another let down. Quite frankly it's distracting me from other things I need to get done, but it sure is interesting. This is the first I've heard of it really being near completion though. Back when Tubs and Petersen were hot names, I got no indication it was actually going down from the same voices that are saying this is all but done. We'll see what happens tomorrow or Thursday...not really sure about that part.

i don't think he pulls the idaho freeze. his pay will go from 250K to over 1.5 mil most likely. Petey Pete was only getting a doubling of salary or so.

Hell, I have them as well, simply because of the way things have gone with this search. But again, this information comes from someone who is part of the process, and this is the first time I've heard it was almost done. It's also the first time I've heard a name... and that name is Kevin Wilson. Take it for what it's worth, which may be a grain of salt right now, but this should be a reality in the near future.

Southern Miss interviewed him. They chose Fedora.

He declined USM's request for a formal interview
Actually, they interviewed him in Oklahoma. USM's AD and a couple boosters flew out there and met with him. He was scheduled to come to USM for a formal interview when USM made the deal with Fedora. Good try though.

Linky linky

Check out the BIG writing, Musturd Buzzard.

Mississippi State athletic director Greg Byrne, who is looking for a head football coach, got out of a private plane that was in Kansas City, Mo., for 27 hours last weekend while the Oklahoma Sooners were in town for the Big 12 Championship.

The Clarion-Ledger reported Byrne and associate athletic director Scott Stricklin stepped off the jet Monday evening in Starkville, Miss., where Mississippi State is located.

According to flightware.com, the plane, a Cessna Citation twin jet, flew to Kansas City on Friday and returned to Starkville Saturday night.

The same jet left Starkville Monday morning and landed in Dallas' Love Field, returning Monday evening. That's when Byrne was spotted getting off the plane.

It's unknown if Byrne was in Kansas City. But the plane he used to go to Dallas was.

What does this all mean?

Perhaps Byrne was in Kansas City to meet with Sooner offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, who is rumored to be up for the job. Perhaps the interview went well and Byrne met with Wilson again in Dallas on Monday.

Wilson has coordinated an offense that has scored 702 points this season, the first time a team has broken the 700-point barrier since 1904.

Last year, Wilson spoke with officials from Southern Mississippi, but he decided not to formally interview for the job.

The year before that, Iowa State showed interest in Wilson, but he didn't want to interview during the regular season. The Cyclones moved on and hired Gene Chizik.

Byrne has been searching for a coach since Sylvester Croom resigned this year after the Bulldogs finished 4-8.

Wilson hasn't been the only assistant linked to the Mississippi State vacancy.

Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen told the Clarion-Ledger he hasn't had contact with MSU, although the Associated Press reported that he has.

The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C., said MSU has spoken with South Carolina defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson.

The Register-Guard of Eugene, Ore., said MSU requested permission to speak with Ducks offensive coordinator and coach-in-waiting Chip Kelly.

Boise State coach Chris Petersen acknowledged a call from Byrne asking if he had any interest, but Petersen said he did not.

Don't really care what that article says, considering a very close family friend was on the plane and was at the interview. So no, dawgstudent, I win, you're just an idiot.

My username is mocking schools like MSU, Ole Miss, and Vandy that don't bring anything to the table in the SEC. But hey, I guess every conference needs their whipping boy right?

After reading the article, DID YOU EVEN READ IT and DID YOU EVEN READ WHAT I SAID? I said that his "formal" interview was canceled because they hired Fedora. He was USM's backup plan. That article only strengthened by original post.

Because my BFF was also on the plane, and he says you're a liar. Uh-huh!

Again, I have to ask, we've won 6 SEC titles in hoops and 9 SEC titles in baseball. Meaningless?

if you can't do better than that, then let the adults handle it.

If we're going by message board mythology here, then we were 1) an inch away from hiring perhaps the nation's top up and coming coach, Chris Petersen and 2) chose Wilson over Gary Patterson, another of the nation's top up and comers.

Boise State and TCU both have better football programs than USM will ever have. And we almost/coulda taken their coaches. If you're going by message board mythology. You *****.

Real money's in football douchebag. Get a football team and we'll talk. And no, Wilson won't get you a football team. Nobody will. MSU is a coaching graveyard. Always has, always will be. MSU has only won 48% of its games and it's "best" coach in the last 50 years only won 50% of his games.

my alma matter is an SEC school

Do tell. This could get fun. Let's see if you have the onions to admit it (if indeed you actually went to college).
