this am and it was one of the most spectacular things I have seen. To see in person is totally nothing like you see on tv. My father was an engineer with NASA in the early years, and I have seen several rocket launches but, to see this machine lift off on this dark and clear sky was awesome.

It really is..I have seen 2 up close (once a night launch from the VIP area, once from normal public area in day) and also saw another one from tampa after the sec tournament last year.
A night launch is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life, its truly an experience..even as a young kid I still remember it well.
Sadly, ,last night was the last night launch of any of the shuttles...only a few more left in the programs history before it is scrapped.
Im hoping to work a summer trip down there to see the final one.
God Bless them as they work above us in the vast darkness of space.

I've been trying to get down to see one for years. Where did you watch the launch from? Good view? I've heard that the NASA causeway has the closest and best view as you can see it on the pad but tickets are HARD to get. I've tried to get them a couple times but they were sold out in seconds online.

Was it the last one? I know they are down close to the final few going into space.
I always thought it would be cool to sky dive and see it taking off.

I went and saw one like seven years ago. However if you have not seen it you can remove it from bucket list as this should be the last or second to last liftoff
