Mississippi State winning out would make it real tough for the bowl selection guys to pick between so many 6-6, 7-5 teams.

IF we win out and all the other games go as planned (no upsets) then the SEC standings will be as follows.

East

Florida 12-0 (8-0)
Georgia 7-5 (5-3)
Tenn 7-5 (4-4)
SC 6-6 (3-5)
UK 6-6 (2-6)
Vandy does not matter

West

Bama 12-0 (8-0)
LSU 10-2 (6-2)
MSU 6-6 (4-4)
Auburn 7-5 (3-5)
UM 7-5 (3-5) with only 6 bowl wins
Arkansas 6-6 (2-6)

This means that the bowl standings would go something like this.

Alabama 13-0 National Championship
Florida 12-1 Sugar
LSU 10-2 Capitol One
Georgia 7-5 Outback (because apparently they select the next best team from the east)
Tennessee 7-5 Peach (only because cotton usually selects a west team)
Auburn 7-5 Cotton (cotton takes next best west team right?)

Then you have 4 (6-6) teams and one team (Mississippi) that only has 6 bowl wins. Thus, we have 5 teams with 6 bowl wins and only 4 bowls to pick from.

Do they use conference records as the tiebreaker between the remaining 6-6 teams?
If so, then these would be the rankings

MSU 6-6 (4-4)
SC 6-6 (3-5) because they beat Ole Miss
UM 7-6 (3-5) only six bowl wins

tie between Arkansas and Kentucky at 6-6 (2-6)
Bowls would be?

MSU Music City
SC Independence
UM Liberty
Arkansas and Kentucky would fight between the Pizza Bowl

Anybody know the selection patterns of these bottom feeder bowls?

The school that set an attendance record at its last bowl game and twice set attendance records THIS year wins every single time. Its less about football tiebreakers and more about ticket sales tiebreakers.

that an SEC bowl can select a team with a worse record, but only one game worse. A 4-4 MSU team would go over a 2-6 Kentucky or 2-6 Arkansas team, but not automatically over a 3-5 USC or UM team.

But, if we do win our last two and get bowl eligible, they'll find a spot for 10 SEC teams - some minor bowl (New Orleans, possibly) will have a spot open. I'd much rather go to New Orleans to play Troy than Memphis to play SMU or Shreveport to play Iowa State.

But you asked, so here is the order after the BCS

Capital One gets #2
Cotton/Outback gets #3/#4
Peach gets #5
Music City/Liberty gets #6/#7
Independence gets #8
Papa John's gets #9

In the Cotton/Outback and Music City/Liberty picks, both bowls pick the team they want at the same time. If the teams are different, then each bowl gets their choice, if the teams are the same, the team gets the choice.

So say we were in the Music City/Liberty pool with South Carolina. If the Music City picked South Carolina and the Liberty picked us, that's where we would go, but if both the Music City and Liberty picked us, then we would pick the one we wanted to go to and the other bowl would have the next choice.

Next year, the selection will look like this:
Capital One #2
Cotton/Gator #3/#4
Outback/Peach #5/#6
Music City/Liberty #7/#8
Papa John's #9

No more Shreveport for SEC.

2001, Ole Miss 7-5, Bama 6-6. We beat Bama that year, they went to a bowl game, we stayed home.

You say no upsets. Yet you have Ole Miss losing to LSU @ home this weekend. Depending on where you get your number, we're anywhere b/n a 3 and 4.5 pt favorite this weekend. I'm sure Coach will tease that down to a pick 'em.

both have sucked so bad toward the end of the season. I'd just love for us to win our last 2 & knock one of them out of a bowl.

Most people outside of Oxford and Madison would call that an upset.

Well, Vegas would call LSU over Ole Miss an upset as well, though it is odd that an unranked team would be favored over a Top 10 team.

That said, I haven't felt like LSU has played like a Top 10 team much this year, and I feel like we are a better team than they are, at least on match ups. I've felt good about the LSU game all year, and that hasn't changed. They're a good team, but I'll be surprised if they beat us.

As I've said before, I feel like the Egg Bowl is more likely to be a loss for us than the LSU game. That's just my take on it.

but the SEC is as much to blame. They should have stood behind Ole Miss and taken the position that they would treat all their member institutions equally, but Bama and their <17>buddies at the SEC home office don't see it that way. If it's Alabama and Texas in the BCS Championship, God help me but I'll be rooting for the Big XII.

They kicked the **** out of both of us and most recently barely lost to UGA in Athens. I'll give you Kentucky, but to say AU has "sucked so bad" is stretching it, a lot.

In 1997 both Miss State and Ole Miss were 7 and 5. Ole Miss went to Detroit and played Marshall and State stayed home. Ole Miss won the Egg Bowl. If it comes down to Miss State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, SC and KY. I think that the winner of the Egg Bowl will have the advantage, which in this case would be Miss State. Both schools will bring the same number of fans; State might even pull more due to the let down factor at Ole Miss. My Ole Miss Friends are pretty much piss and disappointed. I don't know why because LSU his hurting and State is not the best team around, so their chances of going 9 and 3 are pretty good. But when chosing between the two, they will go with the winner of the Egg Bowl.

Actually, in 1997, both teams were 7-4. And in 2001, we were 7-4 and got left out in favor of a 6-5 Bama team. Both seasons teams played only 11 games. The chances of seeing a 7 win SEC team at home these days are basically gone though with all the tie ins. I want to say back in 97 and 01, the SEC only had 7 or 8 tie ins maximum. Now we have 9, with a good shot at 2 in the BCS each year making 10.
