on Thursday nights before his call-in show at The Grill, he used to always come around and talk to everyone. There was one lady, I think it was Bulldog Becky, that would always bring about 10 basketballs for him to sign....every time. It was incredible. That lady must have 1000000 basketballs signed by Rick. By the way, Thursday nights at The Grill ruled. 1/2 price drinks/appetizers.

however I believe that it does have alot to do with the fact that he works his butt off. I don't always agree with him but he never stops trying...especially in recruiting.

For a while it was $1 draft/wells and 1/2 price apps. 17ers got cheap and tightened up once they went corporate.

just like every other coach who lands an NBA talent (which is a big part of coaching college basketball). That's what he's missed up until now. Richard Williams got Dampier and Jones in here and went to the Final Four. If Stans had just gotten ONE of Bender, Monta, Outlaw or potentially Sidney......well, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Austin, Jamont, Roberts - these guys are good players, but they aren't the bonafide NBA talents. Stans has had some bad luck with the NBA draft, and if the current rule had been in effect years ago, Stans may have won a title by now.

he has gotten those guys to commit to MSU, even though they went pro. And the guys that actually did come play with us, have been enough for Stans to win a good bit more than he loses. We all know the stats, no point listing them.

So...yeah, he is agood recruiter.

having NBA talent doesnt make a coach automatically great- How many Final Four's did LSU go to with Shaq, Stanley Roberts, and Chris Jackson?
There are plenty more examples of teams having a 1st rounder but still not making a deep tourney run...Allen Houston ring a bell?

Standsbury had 1st team AA Lawrence Roberts and couldnt make a Sweet 16, not to mention some other very good college players.

Sidney playing won't make Standsbury anymore likely to make it. His coaching will always stand in the way.

He obviously has his plow set at the right depth. Maybe that's why he coaches at an Ag school.

Doesn't have anything to do with LSU. Or even the teams that did not make tourney runs. I'm talking about teams that DID.

Lawrence Roberts wasn't that bonafide NBA guy, like I mentioned in my post. That's been proven. He was, however, one of Stans' best players, if not THE best.

Seriously, don't reply to any more of my postsabout Stans. You make NO SENSE whatsoever regarding the man.

That's pretty big talk about a guy who has never seen the second weekend. You do know that generally speaking, the deeper you go in the tournament, the harder the games get, right? And that not all the games are against SEC West teams, right? I am not even sure the triumvirate of Hanmu/Meo/Brian would go that far. Congratulations on elevating yourself to the wooliest of all.

Let's see...

How bout he's responsible for raising our expectations in basketball so much higher than any other sport on campus that we think it's a huge letdown that we don't make the Sweet 16, which only consists of the top 4.5 percentof teams in college basketball

ina conference full of well healed teams. I don't get all the Stan's bashing he is a winner. Granted, I would like to see him breakthrough in the next few years with deep runs in the tourneyand I think he will.
