I didn't grow up in SC but when I was in high school, games were social events for students. Baseball, basketball and football were packed with students.

I go to a ton of high school games. Lots of students at football, none at baseball and only a small section at basketball. I guess there are better things to do for these kids.
Perhaps high school athletic contests are not the community events they once were.

One of my brothers played on the Beaufort High baseball team which won the 1981 AAAA title.

My father had just retired, and he and my mother went to all the baseball games that season. My brother recalled that when they got off the bus in Moncks Corner for a game vs Berkeley, he noticed that our parents were already in the stands and had been there for quite some time! Go Eagles!

Indian wanted relief from Travel Times and I cannot blame them.

I don't see where the realignment appeal "win" did much for them. They still have several Columbia schools and none of the 4-A schools near them - other than Lancaster.

Really helps them out in some of the lesser watched sports. They should win the state title in one of the sports i follower closely. Wouldn't have had a chance in 5A.

Which one is that, Brother? By the way, Indian Land High Scool is a great facility all the way back.

Agreed on facilities. Been there for baseball and in their gymnasium. Volleyball. They have one of the best hitters in the state on the boy's side. Catawba Ridge has unreal facilities but I have found their coaches, parents and players to be snobby. I have enjoyed the players and coaches at I.L.

How come very few schools in that part of SC schedule non-region contests with NC schools? Seems like that would take care of travel times at least for non-region affairs.

Actually there are some such early-season games against NC opponents, but Lancaster County schools don't typically do it. I can't tell you why. I've known York County schools to do it occasionally.

Loris and Marlboro County regularly schedule contests with nearby NC schools. North Augusta almost always has at least one school from Augusta on every sports schedule in which the SCHSL and GHSA (Georgia High School Association) seasons overlap. Bluffton regularly schedules contests with Savannah area schools, but of late, the regions in and around Savannah have many schools in them, which leaves little room for non-region contests, especially in football.

Yes, sir, I know because I look at Scorestream religiously during high school football season. I know that some of the York County teams have played some of the Gaston and Mecklenburg schools through the years.

Clover mostly.

Still awaiting a South Pointe - South Point matchup.
