This statement by Slive should be very worrisome to fans of MSU, OM, ARK, Vandy, USC and UK (bball doesn't matter). For the commisioner of "our" conference to take the position that procedure tops substance is bad enough. When you couple that with the reporting of timelines and the schools (and states) involved and the sides that would appear to have been taken, it sends a VERY SCARY message to the "have nots" of the conference.

The system that Slive set up was ******** enough to begin with, but now he appears to be ignoring the issues at hand in favor of skewering one of his members for blowing the whistle on (at least) a very shady recruiting situation and (t worst) a shakedown of SEC member institutions.

I'm an Ole Miss fan and this is very sobering.

just posted on another thread that I bet all schools (with the exception of Auburn) didn't want this to go unreported or investigated. Slive is a much bigger threat to this conference than State not following protocol. He showed his true colors today.

Slive is embarrassed, but replaceable.

Florida, and likely Bama are as responsible as MSU in leaking this deal.

The FBI involvement is changing the thought process.

I have believed Bama people were behind this all along. They would love to see Newton sitting the bench in the Iron Bowl. Slive is a dick. Money grubbing dick who cares little about fairness. He is no different from Kramer. Cock smokers.

the country as well as the NCAA is probably different than him desperately playing the CYA game in the SEC....they don't care about his ego...the bottom line is whether or not there was a quid pro quo deal...play for pay.....that seems to be getting lost in the process...sounds fishy to me...like a cover up.

I'm an Ole Miss alum, and we know as well as you guys do that the conference office does not represent all of the member institutions equally. If I were y'all, I wouldn't expect to get any calls tomorrow. There's something fishy with all of this. I haven't figured out what it is yet, but it smells.

Good luck tomorrow.

*** about whether or not the protocol of a conference is or is not followed?

The Commish seems like Kevin Bacon at the end of Animal House pleading "All is well!" as the ****-storm passes him by.

timeliness ever been an issue in situations like this? Where have I heard the statement, "We'd rather this take longer to resolve and make sure everything is done correctly over being hasty and missing pertinent information".

I have never seen these things being rushed before. Slive is a piece of ****.

Not fishy.....just Slive with egg on his face. That is his problem. The poster boy for the conference and the conference itself looks bad now.......on his watch.

On leaking the information........King Jackie made an interesting comment on the Bo Mattingly show (Fayetteville, AR) yesterday. Jackie said that when the NCAA hits a wall in an investigation. They leak information to the media to put pressure on the subjects of the investigation.

It is about money and protecting the money. An SEC team is potentially playing for the national championship, the 5th by an SEC team, and it is not about what is best for the studentathlete, it is not about what is best for the SEC member institutions. It is and always has been about the almighty dollar.
