Nobody talks about that last play? It might've been the dumbest setup I've seen in a long time,
With 3.7 seconds left! Easy enough time to hit a guy running toward the basket take 2-3 dribbles and a shot. But no they threw a lob to front court, like he had 1-2 seconds left!
They had time to get it to mid court and make another pass ect!

Watch your back, Shyer. All those suits at Disney/ESPN with all that dark money might start thinking you’re not The Guy.

I am pretty sure they went the long pass because if they did throw it in for someone to run up the court, then Houston would 100% foul them with 2 ish seconds on the clock . Executing a miss FT and put back layup on Houston was just not something that would happen so trying to avoid Houston putting them on the line was the thought there

but the execution of the play was putrid

Houston would have fouled them.

They didn't really have any good options with the amount of time left down 3.

The refs have bailed Coach K and Duke out almost every time things would get dicey. It is hard to blow it when the refs give you all the breaks. Duke and Coach K had an even bigger melt down against UK in the Elite 8 in '98.

Duke still got a good whistle last night but not so much in the last few minutes like they usually do.

Here is your answer

I personally like Scheyer. Seems much more likable than K. Tough loss for them but I bet he’ll learn from it.

What’s not to like?!

Thought they were throwing the ball to Laettner😜

So now that Scheyer failed to bring home the trophy, there are still only 3 guys who ever won a title as both a player and a coach:

Joe B Hall (only one to do it at same school)
Dean Smith
Bob Knight

So not only does Pope have a chance to become the 4th, but UK has a chance to be the only school where it’s happened twice. Pretty cool!

He blows ans I hope they keep him forever. That's maybe a positive of Duke making it this far, it should give him good will for a while. Because if they lost to say Baylot and got exposed? I'm not sure the Duke fanbase wouldn't be questioning him going forward.

I thought they would have Flagg throw a Lobb to 7’2” guy for a walk off slam

While I agree, that's a very low bar to jump over! Rat Face is about the most phony, arrogant prick I've ever seen and did the least with the most talent than any coach in history, Cal included.

They threw it deep to avoid getting fouled and no chance at hitting a 3

Even worse was the Flagg iso with 20 seconds left.
So damn predictable.
Duke did so many things wrong the last 5 min and totally **** the bed.
I love it. Suck it Scheyer you *** hat.
He also did the same thing he did in the Clemson game and UK game, he started letting Flagg initiate the offense instead of playing off the ball. You would think after costing him 2 games already he would learn but I guess not. As for the last play I guess he has watched Laettner catch that half court pass and sink the shot so many time that he just thought the basketball gods would reward them with the same outcome. I guess not. 🤣🤣

He never had any other plan but to let Cooper do his thing. I mentioned this in another thread that nobody seemed to notice but go back and watch them coming out of the huddle. Scheyer goes up to Cooper and looks him straight in the eye and tells him, "THIS IS YOUR TIME". Laid it all on him and set the kid up for a crash IMO.

You do recall he had no timeouts right. RAFTERY was stupidly saying Sampson should call timeout after the second FT to get his guys set. Of course he didn’t which would have given Duke the time to draw something up.

Yes - I saw it. Its as if it was its own huddle after the team was going to the court.

Yes - I was thinking the same thing. Why would he need a time out - he had all the time he needed while they were doing whatever review for the time. Only an idiot wouldn't use that time to prepare and not just stand around.

What has happened to all the Duke fans? After our loss they flooded the board and came here bragging about their all world team and roster of lottery picks. Now it seems they have lost the link to the website after their epic meltdown. Does this mean we are free of them until they think we have forgotten? I really hate to tell them but I will never forget and will let them know about it if they decide to show up here in a few weeks. 🤣

As many, including me, said....their lack of tough games this season hurt them in the tourney. And as good as he is, Flagg doesn't seem to be the guy who gets the clutch bucket at the end of a game. He bumbled and stumbled several times this season in that scenario.

Just throwing this out there that by and large this bunch of Duke guys were not nearly so dislikeable as their previous teams....but hey, give em a chance and I imagine they will get there.

I think he’s going to be just fine unfortunately. Third year head coach, and he’s like 37-38 years old.

Scheyer is not very good. He will get so much talent being at Duke, that he might “Calipari” a title by just “out talenting” everyone else. But when games are tight, he folds. He was by far the weakest coach in the Final Four.
I wonder how many games he would have won if he had been coaching at UK this year. His back might have gone out by the middle of the SEC schedule

Yeah.. some of it is wishful thinking. You can’t make the title game if you aren’t in the mix, and he has them in the mix. Maybe anyone could with their resources, but Scheyer keeps going pretty far in the tourney.
