Fort Thomas is going back in person January 4th. The email clarified “aggressive hybrid” as meaning that “six foot distancing must occur.”

It was five days a week in person until the order came down. (Unless you’d opted out.)

Same for my kids. They were in person 5 days a week until the EO with a handful of kids opting out for NTI...and they will be back to school in person on January 4th.

Kids should be in school.

Won't matter ...the CDP unions , blm inc will tell them when and what they will do. They want a new socialist curriculum to indoctrinate our children with. 1619 and the evilness of America!

An email yesterday from an after school program at a Lexington elementary school said they have been trying to hire staff since Sept but have hit roadblocks with administration down at central office. Also mentioned a lack of communication. Similar to what parents are experiencing right now with trying to get kids back in person. Have also heard substitutes getting hired is a struggle due to central office. Even if Covid drops way down, the administration at central office and school board can’t get their act together to allow for a return.

Maybe it's been discussed, but why exactly is Fayette County not going back until Thursday, virtually no less? The two week holiday period wasn't enough?

And lol at the thought of them allowing FCPS to actually attend real school the following week.

Given the positivity rate today, I can’t see FCPS going next week. If I hear any inside info tomorrow I’ll be sure to share. My guess (emphasis on guess) is that everything will be dependent on vaccine availability. I have no evidence to back that up. Just a feeling.

funkycat75-

im not getting my hopes up but hearing elementary teachers have been told to report to school tomorrow for their practice and training week in prep for kids to return. Doesn’t mean they will return, but acting like they are preparing to for certain kids I’ll believe it when they take their first steps into that building.

Their school (K-12) offers NTI as a choice, but my kids will be going back in person on Tuesday. Very few families chose the NTI option first semester before King Andy’s mandated school lockdown. Will be interesting to see if the NTI % changes this semester.

Kids are back today. Hopefully for the remainder of the year.

The one think I dislike about them going back is I am back on pick-up duty which takes a least a half hour each day.

I'd like to see a map correlating political affiliation of the governor, mayor, and school board with school closings. I'd be willing to bet that the more those positions lean democrat, the more likely a school system is to be closed (however they phrase it) even if you accounted for the covid levels of the particular area.

He did sound frustrated with the speed of the vaccine inoculation. One thing that I have agreed with him on.

Focus point should be, they don't think they'll get to phase 1b (teachers) until February. "give or take a week". So any of us that actually think kids will be allowed into schools are sadly in for a rude awakening.

The reason it's not being distributed is because his bureaucrats created a plan where everybody has to get permission to move on to the next group. They don't trust the health departments to distribute it fairly. A few health departments in West KY have said "screw it, we've got these doses, we've offered it to all medical, emergency workers, and nursing homes, let's open it up to everybody 70 and over... That's how we need to approach it as soon as the nursing homes are done. Role it out to everybody over 70 for 2 or 3 weeks, everybody over 60 for 2 or three weeks, so and so forth.

We're going to have a teacher shortfall in Kentucky for a long time now, both full-time and substitutes. It's a little more complicated than just red tape at the central office level. We've been building this culture for quite some time.

Tells you how corrupt our whole system is when we let that fear stop us from doing the smart thing you suggest here. IMO, I don't really care if some health departments cut corners. Address them when you find it happening. But get this stuff out to as many old folks and pre-existing condition people as fast as possible.

Yep, I've heard up 15-20% were eligible for retirement when this hit. I don't blame them for gaming the pension system(because that's exactly what they're doing), they didn't create it, but the issue isn't going away because we make glitter signs and wear red shirts.

The good news is, there is a group of bi-partisan legislators working on a plan right now that has some real promise to get us on the road to fixing the problem. It's said to be the most traction gained yet on both sides.

I'm not trying to be a dick but it's going to take more than that. This generation of teachers don't understand retirement. The guaranteed 401ks they offered new hires under Beavin were amazing. Anyone would love that as an investment vehicle. If you're smart and in the 2nd half of life you probably have moved your 401k to basically operate like that but still don't have the protection of an annuity.

Believe it was on @80 Proof 's FB but during all that some teacher was like, "what am I supposed to do with a 401k when I don't pay into social security?" LOL. I mean.. that level of understanding and just depending on the pension is wild to me. Not to mention they all know how to juice their pay at the end to game the pensions, I guess they just thought that was fine with no repercussions.

My sympathy with them is really wearing thin.

Want to laugh/cry? Where I live, some of you know, only 30% of teachers said they're willing to take the vaccine...

FCPS had 76% of certified folks (teachers, admin, specialists) ask for the vaccine.

Only 53% of classified. Custodians, office folks, assistants, lunch ladies, etc.
