<div style="text-align: left;"> Lets talk some football..since I really dont want to talk about the disaster that is our bullpen.
Todays practice was swamped by visiting coaches for the clinic, and their kids.
Even ran into an old coach friend of mine who played at MSU under rocky and jackie,
Offensive lineman Michael Montgomery, now the O-line and running cordinator at Thompson High School near Birmingham.
First off, Tyson once again had a good day of passing for the most part.
Dan did stop during one drill and get onto both him and relf about a 9 yard pattern over the middle that is supposed to hit right in the chest,
and how to be an SEC Qb this is a simple pass you have to be able to do. Tyson had no more problems after this, but Relf
continues throughout the day as he has consistently to find his accuracy.
Looking at some of the individual WR's Wilder and McRae continued to look good in drills both catching almost everything on all the different routes..
and they are throwing them at them, they practiced a good 7-8 different routes in drills.
Tay Bowser did several good things, but dropped his pass on the over the middle route.
On the RB running routes, Dixon could not get a handle on any of his passes, and only caught one ball that I saw all day long (and that was on the easy route dropping
out in the flats), with countless fumbling off his fingertips.. Mullen barked at him about the drag route specifically because he didnt force Knox to go vertical and therefor
had to go on top of him instead of underneath. Major NoNo.
and whoever Blake Edwards is , Mullen was constantly on him, dropped 3 passes in a row in different routes that I saw, didnt finish his route afterwards (supposed to spin off the blocker)
Cameron Lawrence, having just moved to WR from Qb is obvious that he is just a body there and not likely to be a permant home. He is getting better, but had
bad technique on running his routes, and catching the ball.
While the WR were doing the routes drill, the TE and RB switched over to the adjacent field, and went one on one for passing drills....Didnt see much of this drill though as was watching the WR Drills though.
Torbush was barking at the LB/Db about constantly getting caught looking back at the ball instead of playing the receivers hips and eyes.
Some highlights..
Terrell Johnson made a very nice play to strip away the ball on defense, while on offense
</div> Patrick Hanrahan was the numer I kept seeing making plays...catching deep balls over Michael Hunt..and KJ wright
Dixon absolutly wore out Bo Walters working open for a catch also.
Of note, after this period, the team joined back together for Inside drills..and dixon was the last person across the bridge walking, he is far from in top shape.
During Inside drill, it was hard to make much of anything since they were not in full pads and therefor would not tackle to the ground...
But..the interior O-line did a good job of opening gaps, especially when double teaming McPhee.
Love did shine out several times being a big plug in the middle of the line though,
while Nick Bell made a very nice play in the backfield.. but was getting yelled at several time concerning losing containment
on the outside. On the 2nd team, Mike Hunt was playing too high and getting walled inside.
Moving onto Scrimmage...
The Defense had a good day, starting with KJ wright making a great play to keep containment on a rollut forcing Tyson
to throw the ball away. On one of the next plays, Dixon made a good run up the middle but Chaney over-pursued the run
and allowed him to bust a run the length of the field. Dixon was praised but also promptly reminded by Coach knox about changing
what hand has the ball in open field. Other plays by the ends were Sean Ferguson getting walled in on a block and lost containment,
and Brandon Cooper taking the dive on a option play instead of the QB, when relf kept it.
One of the baetter defenisve plays came when Marcus Washington shot the gap on a blitz with a swim move, and then forced relf to give ground
and throw an interception to big ole LaMarcus Williams. Wade bonner also played an inside screen to perfection but dropped the Int.
All in all, good day of practice for the conditions..will find out a lot more in full contact tommorow with the scrimmage.
