Scoring with two outs

Based on my math and UNC official scores, as of the end of the second game of the Notre Dame series, the Diamond Heels have scored 223 total runs. 94 of those runs have come with two outs when the play started, which comes to 42%.

That’s an insanely clutch number.

I appreciate your math JP, because I know you’re not good at it, however we can’t keep relying on those two out hits to bail us out. We have to make hay when we have those runners in scoring position with less than two out. We had some bad at bats with runners in scoring position with less than two outs today. those two out hits (although great) bailed us out

And Zino...you realize that stuff done with 2 outs is 1/3 of the game right? I get your point, but runs with one out, two outs and three outs count the same right?

What it shows is the clutch gene - for teams, for a player, and all that.

Agree with the clutch gene. My point is your chances of a big(ger) inning would be more likely if you got those big hits with runners in scoring position with less than two out. I’m not complaining about the two out hits at all.

And I say that it’s clutch without knowing what the NCAA average is. Just saying that it’s more than 1/3, and considering that guys usually tighten up a bit with the pressure of two outs on, it seems to be clutch.

At first it seems surprising but when you think of small ball offenses that rely on sacrificing outs for moving runners, it makes more sense

However, 60-70% come with less than 2 out. Thanks for proving my point TA!

I think what’s probably weird about this team is the total number of 2-out runs scored vs. number of innings where they score a 2-out run. We’ve had several MASSIVE 2-out rallies, and those in late-game situations, which speaks to the clutchness.
